A jet bound for New York made an emergency landing at Stansted airport yesterday after repeated warnings that a bomb was on board.
The pilot of the Olympic Airways flight, carrying 301 passengers and crew from Athens, diverted after a Greek newspaper received three telephone calls saying the plane would be destroyed in revenge for the invasion of Iraq. Two RAF Tornados were scrambled from Coningsby, Lincs, on a "detect, defer or destroy" mission and the Airbus 340 landed at 3.30pm
