I've been concerned about this myself, especially after the surprise turnout Gore got in 2000. Everyone seemed to think Gore would win the Electoral College and Bush the Popular Vote; instead the opposite happened.

So I am worried, but I see positives and negatives:

Positive: Bush is polling ahead even in Zogby, something he didn't do last time. Also, the Likely Voters lead seems to be big enough to compensate for the ever-erratic new/unpolled voters.

Positive: Bush is much closer with the youth vote than he was against Gore. Hence the new MTV/DNC "Bush wants to bring back the draft" campaign. They obviously see this with their internal polls, too.

Negative: Democrat turnout will be its highest ever, count on it. There will be a ton of new votes coming out for Kerry (or rather, against Bush).

Negative: Democrat vote fraud will be at a record high (wanna bet on that?).

Positive: No more October surprises are likely to be as effective as the drunk driving charge in 2000. They have hit Bush with everything including the kitchen sink, and then the pipes underneath. He's still standing.

Positive: Christians are more motivated than ever. I expect Ohio to be out of contention soon because of church efforts coming out on the Republican side (for a change).

Negative: Still three debates and more than a month to go; anything can happen.

Positive: Terror strikes and attempts overseas trying to change elections in places like Australia, etc., will remind people that this isn't September 10th, 2000 anymore. There is nothing positive about terrorism, don't misunderstand me; but the reality is that the Dems have been trying to make people forget about it, and with elections everywhere coming soon, that is becoming less and less effective.

----So to me, I am cautiously optimistic. I don't think anyone should expect a blowout, despite recent polls. I do think that redoubling our efforts is essential to helping Bush to victory.

My prediction: a squeaker, with Bush pulling it off because of picking-up Wisconsin and holding on to Missouri, Arkansas, Nevada, and Colorado. I see Bush getting 291 EVs right now.

Stay optimistic, but be wary that there is plenty of time left for Liberal treachery!!
