First Print Story on the Outing of Congressman David Dreier on the Internet

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- San Gabriel Valley Congressman David Dreier is the latest GOP member to be outed as a homosexual Republican by Mike Rogers, former development director for the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and his blogactive.com Web site. Doug Ireland, longtime radical political journalist, media critic and self-described purveyor of "investigative opinion," defends the outing and assesses Dreier's political future in this first discussion of the outing in the print media. Already Ireland's story has caused a stir. Several radio stations have called Ireland for comment and many are debating whether Ireland should have kept the story on the Internet. "I have not the slightest doubt that the outing campaign initiated by Mike Rogers' blogactive.com and supported by Raw Story's reporting is accurate in exposing Dreier," Ireland insists. "Moreover, in the course of reporting this story, I talked to a gay member of Congress who has observed Dreier in gay behavior and is 100% sure, as this member told me, that Dreier is gay. And, clearly, Dreier's demagogic political homophobia justifies reporting the outing campaign targeting him."

I don't care. He can pay his chief of staff whatever he wants. It's his congressional budget.

If it's a question of character, the lack thereof is showing in these people who insist on "outing" people whose sexuality was refreshingly private.

I could care less whether my representatives are straight or gay.

I would rather not have to hear testimony about them "using" the sinks of the White House and interns, articles of clothing, and tobacco products. Especially when the representative is chosen to lead the USA and the Free World.

I also don't expect people who happen to be members of groups to vote en bloc.

Al Rantel happens to be gay, is a staunch conservative Republican, and is against gay marriage.

Outing is wrong.

I think "outing" one's political foes is a particularly nasty tactic, that most decent folk would consider out of bounds. It always reminds me of something that would have gone on in the old Soviet Union. Maybe one day this clown will "out" the wrong guy and end up paying the price.

" I don't care. He can pay his chief of staff whatever he wants. It's his congressional budget. "

It's our congressional budget. If Dreier is sleeping with his chief of staff and paying him more than other Congressmen pay theirs what kind of a work environment is that for everyone else?

Remember Wayne Hays? Dan Crane? Gerry Studds? Bill Clinton? Sleeping with the help is bad news

Is Henry Hyde a RINO because he opposes such an amendment?

If that is true, then yep.

Oh good grief. Now we defend this crap in our own party? Did this party at one time have some morals or was I just misguided in thinking that?

Soooo, what's their point? Everyone has a right to choose whether to discuss their sex life or not. Most people I know aren't interested in any one's but their own! How does this apply to his work?

Lord love a duck, I hope no one ever outs me for being a straight, dog lovin', Brigadier General of the Blue Hair Brigade. Y'all will keep my secret, won't you?

If you think amending the Constitution in 2004, for ANYthing, is even a good idea to discuss, I have lost a lot of hope for FR.

About the only Constitutional Amendment I'm interested in seeing is one that will end alphabet-agencies, restore the Bill of Rights, or end Social Security.

We don't care if he bumps bellys with overweight, fat hairy, 50 year old me. As long as I don't have to watch.

He's got much bigger problems.

He panders to illegal aliens, and that's why this guy is going out the same way as Gray Davis did.

Fire Dreier!

Defend what "crap"? A gay Republican wants to keep it in the closet?

You're a bit of a stiff, Havoc, if I do say so.
