America uses the word "democracy" as its battle cry, and its nervous soldiers gun down Iraqi civilians when they try to hold street demonstrations to protest against the invasion of their country. So much for democracy. (At least the British Army is better trained.)

America is one of the few countries in the world that executes minors. Well, it doesn't really execute them - it just keeps them in jail for years and years until they are old enough to execute, and then it executes them. It administers drugs to mentally disturbed prisoners on Death Row until they are back in their right mind, and then it executes them, too.

They call this justice and the rule of law. America is holding more than 600 people in detention in Guantánamo Bay, indefinitely, and it may well hold them there for ever. Guantánamo Bay has become the Bastille of America. They call this serving the cause of democracy and freedom.

snip

We have seen enough boots in the past few months to last us a lifetime. Iraqi boots, American boots, British boots. Enough of boots.

I hate feeling this hatred. I have to keep reminding myself that if Bush hadn't been (so narrowly) elected, we wouldn't be here, and none of this would have happened. There is another America. Long live the other America, and may this one pass away soon.

And just imagine, if Guantanimo were under Cuban sovereignty and the same people were being held indefinitely by her hero Fidel she wouldn't find a thing wrong with it!

One (accidental) nugget of truth in the whole sorry article...

She's right, without Bush, she might not be here (on earth) anymore. The terrorists would likely have gotten to London if we hadn't kept them so busy running for their lives for the past three years..

No you don't, Margaret. You're reveling in it like the scum you are. Well, up yours, chickie poo. Take a tip from your favorite American president, Bill Clinton, and put some ice on it.

Have you been to Iraq lately? Have you seen the children going to school, ALL the children? Were you there when the brave soldiers of Saddam held the children in front of themselves while they shot AK-47s and RPGs at my Nephew? What right have you to sit here and Bask in your freedom while the world at large suffers? Freedom is only for people like you? Other less fortunate peoples must suffer at the hands of those cruel dictators who perform acts of unimaginable horror upon them since they have no freedom and therefore no recourse. What about the family that has the attractive daughter, she is plucked away for the pleasure of the powerful never to be heard from again. What of the father who demands to know of her whereabouts and is in turn found murdered for asking questions of the powerful? Now what of the family that has no one to support them and is cast out into the street to live as beggars? Freedom is only for you? How dare you, your freedom was won by those better than you and is kept by those better than you. You do not wish for peace for anyone but yourself, you are the selfish and abhorrent American. You are the one who is to be loathed, you are nothing more than a socialist who is too lazy and selfish to care what lot your neighbor has drawn. I will leave you with the words of a great man and lover of freedom, he was also a hater of socialism.

"Still, if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed ; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than live as slaves."… Winston Churchill
