Brosnahan said the sentence should be reduced because Yaser Esam Hamdi (search), another American citizen captured in Afghanistan on suspicion of aiding the Taliban, is being released after being held for three years as an enemy combatant.Wasn't Hamdi the middle-easterner who was born while his parents were briefly in the USA and thus granted automatic citizenship by virtue of being born here? I understand one of his conditions of release was for him to forfeit his US citizenship. Lindh had no dual citizenship.

I wonder wether there would be any leniency shown in the world that poor, ignorant John envisaged. Most islamic-based cultures have all sorts of vengeance, retalliation and get-even traditions, without any hope of leniency for traitors whatsoever.
