VOTER FRAUD ALERT: Flood of registrations (FR SWAT TEAM, MAN YOUR KEYBOARDS)

Pennsylvania's importance in presidential race keeps election officials busier than at any time in decades. Of The Morning Call

Election officials across the Lehigh Valley are working frantically to keep up with a surge in voter registrations fueled by public interest in the Bush-Kerry presidential race and voter registration drives in swing-state Pennsylvania.

Adding to the workload for most counties is a statewide computerized registration database that has proved to be slow and troublesome, according to local officials.

Whatever the causes, veteran election officials in at least two area counties, Northampton and Bucks, say they're busier logging new voters than at any time in the past quarter-century. The deadline for new registrations is Monday.

''It's really unbelievable; I've never seen it like this,'' said Northampton County Chief Registrar Linda A. Arcury, who's worked in the county's registration office since 1978. ''We're busier than ever … the girls here are working till 8, 9 o'clock at night'' trying to keep up with a flood of registrations that has ranged from 300 to 700 each day, Arcury said.

Bucks County election workers have been working weekends to keep up. ''This is like no other election I've ever seen, and I've been here 26 years,'' said the county Board of Elections Chief Clerk Deena Dean.

Most election officials in the region are reporting similar spikes in registrations, as well as in the telltale applications for absentee ballots, which officials consider a predictor of Election Day turnout.

Generally in the region, Democrats are gaining more registrants than Republicans. Bellman said that's clearly the case in Berks, where over the past year, Democrats have reversed the trend of a slow but steady GOP growth over the previous 40 years.

Welcome to my state, I was wondering just yesterday how long it would take the public to notice voter fraud here, considering I live in Philadelphia with the crooked mayor I have who is buddy buddy with the disgusting Governor I have.

I'm not surprised about Berks having some more Dem voters. There's been a lot of development out there these last few years, a lot of McMansions going up. A good number of the people buying those houses vote Dem. If they could afford the same home nearer Philadelphia, they'd be more likely to be Republicans.

Just let them continue their tactics. Let their party be the one responsible for doing their damndest to make our Country look like some third-world banana republic during the actual voting process.

That should just about do it for them, in the eyes of anyone who cares at all about their Country. If that is their plan, then I'll venture that it will lose them even more membership in their pathetic party.

I'm not in the city but I gotta feel for ya. How do you stand it?

I've tried and tried to find out how to be a poll watcher or whatever they call them here and can find nothing on any PA website.

BTW I thought if you EVER lived in Philadelphia you could vote there forever dead/alive, living anywhere else, even if you just know someone there you can vote I think.

I wish you well, stay safe at the polling place, those union thugs can be really nasty I hear.

Election officials across the Lehigh Valley are working frantically to keep up with a surge in voter registrations

I have a son in the Lehigh Valley area, just now registering to vote for the first time. He's voting for Bush. That's at least one application that isn't fraudulent!

(Btw, President Bush is scheduled to appear in the area for a campaign rally tomorrow morning.)
