Khatami to visit Algeria, Sudan, Oman next month

Tehran Times Political Desk

TEHRAN (MNA) -- President Mohammad Khatami is to start a three-nation tour on October 2 that will take him to Algeria, Sudan, and Oman.

Top on the agenda during his official visits to the three states will be a review of the latest regional and international developments and discussions of bilateral cooperation with senior officials of the three countries.

President Khatami’s visit to Algeria is in response to Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s visit to Tehran last October.

Five major agreements on bilateral cooperation in the areas of judicial affairs, finance, industry, and air transport were inked by Iran and Algeria during Bouteflika's visit to Iran last year.

The Iran-Algeria Joint Economic Commission held its second session in Tehran in June 2004.

Algerian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Rachid Harraoubia and Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology Jafar Towfiqi signed four memoranda of understanding (MOUs).

Senior Iranian and Sudanese officials say President Khatami's visit to Sudan could open a new chapter in Tehran-Khartoum relations.

The participation of Iranian companies in several exhibitions held in Sudan has encouraged the government to finalize agreements already reached by the two sides, particularly one on eliminating double taxation.

Iran-Sudan relations have been steadily growing in recent years, and the 8th session of the Iran-Sudan Joint Economic Commission was held in Khartoum in early September, during which several MOUs were inked.

The Iranian president will visit Oman on the last leg of his three-nation tour.

i have to wonder about you guys who post mushroom clouds every time you hear the word 'iran'. the idiots in charge over there are full of nuclear bluster and bravado. we dont need idiots like that on our side as well.

and while khatami hasnt been all that succesful, he is a reformist leader who was voted in, rather than part of the theocracy. hes been a bit of a failure, considering the theocracy has been cracking down and all, but he seems to be the kind of leader who at least pushes in a direction we would prefer.

Iran: Khatami: ‘Teheran will continue nuclear drive even without UN supervision’

President Mohammad Khatami (speaking from the reviewing stand overlooking the parade, in the presence of senior military commanders): “We will in no way try to acquire nuclear weapons because it is against our religion and culture. We are opposed to nuclear weapons”

Iran staged its annual show of military might last week, with President Mohammad Khatami pledging that the Islamic republic will push on with its controversial nuclear program even if it risks international isolation. His warning came as Iran paraded its range of ballistic missiles and announced it had begun converting a large amount of uranium ore into the feedstock for enriching uranium.

The president said the international community had to “acknowledge our natural and legal right and open the path for understanding... so we can accept comprehensive international supervision and we can continue our path to acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

“Otherwise we will continue on this path even if the result is the cutting off of international supervision”, he told a parade marking the beginning of ‘Sacred Defense Week’, the anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of 1980.

“We have made our choice and it is now the turn of others to choose”, he said in a response to a tough resolution passed by the UN International Atomic Energy Agency.

But Khatami also repeated denials that Iran was seeking nuclear weapons. “If we are under supervision or not, we will in no way try to acquire nuclear weapons because it is against our religion and culture. We are opposed to nuclear weapons”.

I take it that you disagree with my pictoral assessment of the kind of trouble Khatami and his thugs are trying to start.

Khatami finally announced that he was only a stooge for goh Ayatollah Ali Khamenei way back in March. But that's breaking news for young women who engage in name calling before learning.

Khatami, regardless of how deceptively smooth he is, shouldn't be running around to other countries (e.g., Algeria, Sudan, Oman,...) in efforts to broaden terrorism against the USA.

[..switch into contemporary higher learning and elite mode now to be better understood by the deluded US Fine Arts student societies.] Khatami perpetrated and sold a lot of woof tickets to a lot of students of the skeeza, onion kind (you know, Women's Studies (AKA BI class), English, Psych., Soc., Philosophy,...), but he didn't fool all of us. And he failed to fool reformist Iranian students a long time ago. If he and his Ayatollah wankstas don't stop whoobangin' around about us, we gonna open up a can and steal them in they grills!
