Study up on gun CONTROL Bill O'Reilly! Your statement last night, about Kerry's views are FLAT OUT WRONG!
Last night, after Torricelli said the people of N.J. needed to be reminded of gun control (among other issues), you said, "Kerry can't really make the gun control case because he's not really for gun control". That statement, like MANY you make on this issue, has NO BASIS IN REALITY. Here's some reasons why:
1. Kerry has a 19 or 20 year ANTI-gun voting record in the senate. He has over FIFTY anti-gun votes. 2. He has CONSISTENTLY received an "F" rating from the NRA and Gun Owners of America, and has CONSISTENTLY voted ONE-HUNDRED PERCENT of the time with the virulently anti-gun Brady group (formerly Handgun Control Inc.) and the Coalition the Stop Gun Violence (info from vote-smart.org). 3. While he has OFTEN been AWOL from his duties as Senator, and missed MANY important votes on issues important to the American people, yet he (and John Edwards) RAN, not walked, back to D.C. during the primaries specifically to cast ANTI-gun votes. 4. He has helped give Massachusetts (as Lt. Governor) some of the most sweeping, DRACONIAN gun CONTROL (anti-gun liberals now try to call it "safety", but is all about government CONTROL of the law-abiding citizens) laws in the entire nation. 5. He SAYS he is a life-long hunter and gun owner, yet he has been quoted as saying he owns only 2 guns, a double-barrel shotgun, and a communist Chinese assault rifle (he has recently flip-flopped the "macho", "Alpha-male", and blatantly HYPOCRITICAL - assault rifle ownership, and NOW says he owns a bolt-action military rifle instead). I have been hunting and shooting since I was 8 years old, and I don't know ANY REAL hunters and gun owners that don't have more guns (for many different uses) than Kerry. For instance, absolutely EVERY gun owner and hunter I have EVER known owns AT LEAST ONE .22 rimfire rifle and/or handgun for hunting, plinking, etc. Also, he has described his love of stalking deer while crawling on his belly with his double barrel shotgun. I have NEVER heard of ANY hunter that hunts deer in that way (perhaps it's like his blatantly FAKE statements designed to make him look like a regular sports fan - "LAMBERT" field?!). Like Clinton, with his one-time photo-op of hunting birds before one of his elections, Kerry is trying to FAKE gun owners into believing he is one of us. He is most assuredly NOT one of us. 6. He parses his words very carefully (ala Bill Clinton) when speaking of his support for the 2nd Amendment, often saying, "I support the right of Americans to own guns as it has been interpreted by the courts in our country" (paraphrased). He is obviously talking about the very limited view of left-wing, activist judges who view the 2nd as a COLLECTIVE right with a militia viewpoint, NOT an INDIVIDUAL right as the founding fathers (go back and read their original intent Bill) intended, and the President and John Ashcroft have set forth. He also regurgitates the TIRED liberal mantra, "You don't need an Uzi or an AK-47 to hunt birds". First of all, no hunter hunts birds with a rifle John, AND, the 2nd Amendment is NOT about hunting or sporting uses of firearms. It IS about self-defense, and defense of ones family, community, state, and country.
As I said, these are just a FEW reasons why I think your comment on Kerry not being for gun control is WAY off base Bill. You withheld judgment on Dan Rather and the Swiftees for Truth claims because you said YOU need to investigate the truth yourself before reporting. You need to be consistent and do the same thing regarding the gun issue Bill.
Sincerely, Tom "Doc" Holladay Powder Springs, GA
" I didn't like it when he compared our troops to Jen-jis Khan.
I don't like his stance on jun control.
And I think John Kerry is jonna jet me killed."
I'm ignoring your vanity because you refused to keep it pithy.

I think I have the right to OPINE because I included name&town, name&town, name&town, name&town.
What a pompous ass he is.

But it's not a bad thing if voters in Jersey think he's against gun control. The state is close and the citizens of urban Jersey really do see a problem with a lot of guns in their streets. If Kerry is forced to say he's absolutely for gun control in his ads or visits to Jersey, that undercuts his stealth position on the issue in the Red States. I like the fact that O'Reilly brought it up.
I sent your letter to him.

Thanks. I should have mentioned in my post that this was an email I already sent to him (it would be nice if a paying member on his website would forward it to him). I know it is too long to be read on his show, but my main point is to let him know that he needs to further investigate gun and 2nd Amendment issues (and the positions of others, including Kerry) before continuing to make factually incorrect statements. Our rights are to important to be influenced by high-profile people without a clue.
Settle down bro. O'Reilly does many good things, like keeping the liberals in check. He's one of the few tough journalists who'll confront the left with tough questions from a non-partisan standpoint. I agree he made a mistake about Monsieur Kerry's stance on guns (he's for gun control then he's against it-lol)but he's still a good journalist who tells it like it is.
Git-r-done fellow Georgian! As a member of PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals), I like your burger and beer comment. As Ted would say, "Kill it and grill it".
O'Reilly is anti-gun ownership.
I have that bumpersticker on my truck.
With all due respect, I think you are wrong about O'Reilly. He recently had conservative talk radio host, Laura Ingraham (I really like her, and Ann Coulter's tough and practical viewpoints) on his show (I'll give him that, he is willing to have dissenters on). She said, in so many words, "you are so intent on being fair and balanced, that you try to see both sides of EVERY issue, even when one side is obviously right, and the other is obviously wrong". Laura NAILED down my problem with O'Reilly in the statement she made to him. His "fair and balanced" reporting is often ridiculous and ludicrous - to the point of embarassment. Notice I say, often, as this is not always true. Even Colmes admits more often when some liberal viewpoint is totally wrong or over the top!
With all due respect to my fellow conservative, the point I'm trying to make is that O'Reilly isn't there to take a postion based on ideology, which is what Laura Ingraham(whom I also like) was trying to get him to say. He's there to make a presentation with his guests so the audience can decide, not push some ideological slant on you, unlike the elite liberal media phonies we're used to. "To the point of embarassment", that opinion is out there. He has millions of viewers for a reason. You have to place faith in in fair-minded Americans that the conservative point of view will win over liberal lunacy. All we need is to be heard and he allows that.
I agree he does try to let both sides be heard. This is refreshing. It is also true, that he has factually misrepresented Kerry's positions. Bill is usually factually correct, and takes care to not permit his guests to make things up to win arguments. Thus it is disapointing that he is playing directly into Kerry and his handlers spin on this.
