Senator Kerry sent a message to the American people in his closing remarks that said that he will get your kids home and get the job done and win the peace. I am a 38 year old man who joined the military 18 years ago, and I have yet to find a kid in Uniform from the United States. I have however found many good young men and women who are proudly serving their country. My biggest pet peeve is this - referring to a young Soldier/Sailor/Airman/Marine as a "kid" or "boy/girl" by the MSM. There are NO KIDS IN THE UNITED STATES MILITARY !!! I call my Airmen "kids" because they are a part of my family. I wouldn't disrespect them by referring to them as kids outside my squadron, or by referring to another squadron's airmen, or a sister service's lower ranking enlisted, as kids. Within the squadron, it's an affection I use when talking to other NCOs, i.e. "Can you BELIEVE the cars these kids are buying these days?" or "I can't believe these kids are THAT stupid." The latter doesn't go far, because then I remember I used to be THAT stupid, and it's my job to make sure my "kids" learn about their stupidity and help them mature as Airmen.

"Me too, I have a 16 year-old seriously considering military service." Not trying to persuade him for any particular branch, but tell him the next time he passes one of those recruitment places that has an eagle, globe and anchor on the door, stop in and visit for awhile.

Thank you, Captain Hays, for telling it like it is!
God bless you and the rest of the men and women who are protecting us.

"Kerrys message to the troops was, Help is on the way! In what form Senator Kerry? You have alienated the coalition countries that we fight beside every day. You cannot articulate a plan for success, and you have no grasp that this war was even necessary. Thanks, but no thanks!"

"Of course the war in Iraq is part of the war on terror!"CapHayes is right. I think most of the troops understand that too, as well as most Americans. People who don't understand that Iraq is part of the WoT, never supported the WoT from the start and probably are part of the blame America crowd, holding the US responsible for the 9-11 attacks occuring.

This gave me goosebumps. I continue to feel awed and humbled by these brave young men who have put themselves in harm's way for us.
Thank you, Captain Hayes. May God bless you and all of our fighting men everywhere.
