but a bribe implies a larger conspiracy on the part of the Russians etc. than one guy taking some money etc.

Yep, I'll stick with bribe. For instance, the conspiracy was for other illegal items such as advanced weapons systems (i.e. Roland), centrifuges, etc. all government controlled.

If all this is true, then other 'gates' in the last 30-40 years are pale in comparison. The problem is nothing ever gets done. Heaven forbid if we should upset anyone in the UN or anyone part of the globalization mob

There have all kinds of reports of kick backs in the last couple of weeks, and check with a few of your friends if they ever heard of this oil for food possible scandal. How does something like this get legs?

All who opposed the take down of Saddam because they had the took what Saddam pick pocketed from the Iraqi people. His people did without proper health care and food while they all lived high on the hog. They condoned everything the sadistic ba$stard did by closing their eyes while they had their pocketbooks open. They got rich on the backs of the Iraqi people and the UN had the largest pocketbooks of them all.

Could you please tell me which role Germany played in your game? Which advantages had Germany from its opposition - except the domestic that it helped to re-elect the current Chancellor?

Follow the money. German companies were gaining from OFF the same way the rest were. Follow the votes that followed the money. It doesn't take a rocket scientist. A kindergardener could connect the dots.

I wonder if this is Rove's October surprise, though we have known about it for some time now. Perhaps new evidence will indicate why our 'allies' opposed us, and it has nothing to do with President Bush failing to bring them in.

Whatever language you use, it is huge news.

It has to have legs....even the MSM will surely report this with the congressional bashing this week and the Iraqi report.

But who knows, I could be wrong. The only thing most in the media are even slightly paying attention to is the UN internal probe, which will be a sham job and get the most attention of the mainstream press.

The report largely implicates France and Russia, whom Saddam Hussein targeted as he sought support on the UN Security Council before the Iraq war. Both countries were influential voices against UN-backed action. A senior UN official responsible for the scheme is identified as a major beneficiary.

Here is your October Surprise>

I guess you should now call the countries in Iraq as "The Coalition of the Unbribed".

Thanks for the ping, Misty. I am in the process of a letter to the editor about this miserable mess, even though it will fall mostly on deaf ears, I suppose. I would hope though, that the average Joe would pay attention to this disgusting display.

I have been wondering why Bush, ergo Rove, hasn't used this tidbit. Come on, you know they haven't.

If the Dems had this scandal brewing on the back burner, were the situation reversed, they'd done had five books written by 5 star generals on it, and a Kitty Kelly masterpiece hinting of Bush family involvement in the UN oil for food scandal.

Instead only us idiot political junkees know all about it but for whatever reason, the pubbies aren't using it.

A couple possible reasons for this but I'm just speculating. It could be that Bush wants Iraq to bring charges against the UN. Maybe after consulting with all sorts of legal poohbahs it was decided that the proper course of action was to establish a duly elected government and then sue the hell out of the UN. For America to get involved...not good and a loser.

In fact, I'll even go so far as to say that this is EXACTLY the reason why this administration is laying low on this scandal.

Can you imagine the Dems doing such a thing?

This will be ignored.

I don't think Cheney will.

My husband also wrote a letter to the editor regarding the 14th Amendment to the Constitution which prohibits someone from holding office once they have provided aide and comfort to the enemy (re Vietnam). He thinks we should just group up and do a citizen's arrest!

Thanks for the advice, Fritzz! I apologize for my seizure!!! I may have gone overboard with this subject but I've been following this ever since it first broke several months ago. As someone who has worked in England, France, Switzerland, etc., trading with large companies that were always involved with Swiss banks and the like, I know how these things are handled, how the 'grease' is used to pay off corrupt 'functionaries'! So when I see Mr. Annan's phony innocent demeanor and Chirac's cynical nonchalance, I get revved up! And the slick John Kerry, with his superior 'je ne sai quoi' attitude towards us, mere mortals and proletarians, really gets me p...ed off! Again, thanks....

He's not too far off the mark, I would say! I just shake my head daily at the pure evil garbage the lefties shove down Americans throats, and it seems (hope I am wrong) that most are swallowing it, and asking for more. My hubby just remarked that we conservatives (i.e. normal) need to stand up and make our voices known together, and yesterday was already too late.

Another major scandal that is being played down by the major media is the Fannie Mae scandal. Democratic operatives are involved in this scandal up to their ears!
A guy whose name is Johnson who, it seems, is slated to become Secretary of the Treasury in a Kerry administration, was involved in the manipulation of Fannie Mae's accounting practices from as early as 1998!!!! And so was Jamie Gorelick of 9/11 Commission fame... Both, incidentally, were Clinton appointees to Fannie Mae!!!

The root of the Iraq war was the fact that Sadam wouldn't let the inspecters do their work. And, the reason is, he didn't have to let them because of the KICKBACKS. We were/are alone in this war for obvious reasons. Gees, I feel your Fustrations.

If someone would just pick-up and run with this, I swear my blood presure would drop about 20 points.
