Feds say Berger still under probe Former security adviser took classified documents
The criminal investigation of former National Security Adviser Sandy Berger accused of pocketing highly classified terrorism documents prior to the Sept. 11 Commission hearings has disappeared from media coverage but not from the federal government's agenda.
Sandy Berger
A spokesman from the Department of Justice told WND that a criminal investigation was ongoing, but he would not provide details about the nature or timing of the probe.
Berger, who had served as national security adviser to John Kerry's campaign, was reported in July to be under investigation for removing the documents and handwritten notes from a secure reading room at the National Archives.
Berger was there at the request of former President Clinton, who asked him to review and select the administration documents that would be turned over to the commission.
FBI agents searched his home and office after he voluntarily returned some documents. But some drafts of a sensitive after-action report on the Clinton administration's handling of al-Qaida terror threats during the December 1999 millennium celebration were found to be missing.
Berger and his lawyer admit he knowingly removed handwritten notes he made while reading classified anti-terror documents by sticking them in his jacket, pants and socks. They said he also inadvertently took copies of actual classified documents in a leather portfolio.
"I deeply regret the sloppiness involved, but I had no intention of withholding documents from the commission, and to the contrary, to my knowledge, every document requested by the commission from the Clinton administration was produced," Berger said in a statement.
Although Berger says he has resigned from his informal post as adviser to Kerry, he stated in a speech last week that if the Massachusetts senator wins the election, it is possible the decision to reduce U.S. troops in Korea would be reconsidered, The Chosun Ilbo newspaper of South Korea reported.
In a keynote address for an international symposium hosted by Johns Hopkins University and the Maeil Business Newspaper, Berger said pulling 12,000 troops out of Korea at a time when Koreans were openly raising doubts about the Korea-U.S. relationship was sending a bad signal to Koreans, the Korean newspaper said.
Berger believes direct talks between the U.S. and North Korea are needed to solve the North Korean nuclear issue.
Hmmm. Now we know where kerry gets his marching orders....
I sure would like to see follow-up on this in the MSM. This is the biggest story of the election season in my personal opinion. It is as big or bigger than Watergate. It is blatant law-breaking and a clear breach in our national security. Berger should be in jail, now!
I was just thinking that Bergergate sure did fall off the radar screen awful quick. If this was a Republican that did this he'd be behind bars by now. Or at the least the RATS would have appointed an "Independent Panel" to investigate. They would have also demanded the answer to "What did Bush know and when did he know it?".
This can't be true. It's not on my TV.
(If I had a TV...)
They have him on tape, why are they still "probing"? Why isn't he in jail? Or at least spending all his "Clinton" money on lawyers.
There should have been an indictment or two over 900+ FBI files, too. That story went down the memory hole just as fast as they could bury it.
Berger's Firm to Aid Oil Interests in Iraq

Stonebridge International, the "global strategy firm" founded by Clinton administration national security adviser Samuel R. "Sandy" Berger, has taken on an interesting client, Gulfsands Petroleum Ltd., a private Houston-based oil and gas company.
Gulfsands, along with its larger partner Devon Energy Corp. of Oklahoma City, has oil and gas exploration and development interests in Syria. And now Gulfsands is looking to Iraq. "Stonebridge is assisting Gulfsands in organizing meetings in Washington with administration officials to discuss the company's business interests in Iraq and U.S. policy toward Syria," Stonebridge Vice Chairman H.P. Goldfield said in an e-mail response to written questions.
The lobby registration was filed with Congress by Goldfield and colleague Joy Drucker. Goldfield, who served in senior jobs in the Reagan administration, said Gulfsands "is conducting business development activities in Iraq" but "is not pursuing any U.S. funded contracts in Iraq." Its discussions with the government of Iraq are confidential for now, Goldfield said. "Our proposed energy project will be privately funded and will have significant economic and environmental benefits to the people of Iraq.
The project would create thousands of jobs for Iraqi citizens and would introduce more environmentally beneficial technologies into Iraq's development of its oil and gas sector," Goldfield said. Berger is not involved with the work for Gulfsands, Goldfield said.

Berger is under investigation for stealing national security documents from the National Archive (then destroying some of the documents), and is slithering around Washington involved in profiting from US government business in Iraq. What does it take to remove Berger's influence from official Washington?
I think the term, "continuing probe," is a euphonism for, "this story will soon die and you will never know any more about it. We must protect Sandy Burger because he's a VIP and very important in the war against America."

Those security BREECHES can be pretty uncomfortable.
What is this nonsense?
Why has not Berger been arrested and indicted for theft of classified government documents, misuse of said documents, and a host of other criminal charges?
Why is Sandy Berger special?
Why is a grand jury involved?
Why can not the Justice Dept. simply arrested and charge Berger?
Why is Berger getting special treatment? He should have been jailed a year ago?
