Besides, Kerry used an orange crayon.
I saw that too. It was a pen, but that's not the shot everybody seems to be upset about.
Red
It seems that he has something in his lowered right hand from the start of this clip. Something is weird and the pen doesn't answer the whole sequence. He has something else.
Did he pull BUSH's cheat notes out of his sleeve? LOL.
Anyway, look in the closeup video in my post above again. See how he is ALREADY holding something whitish and squarish in his right hand? Then he clearly pulls that pen out of his pocket with his LEFT hand. His right hand still holds the goodies.
At that point, he appears to shift his hands' contents around in front of him and behind the podium so that no one can see, but the camera DOES catch a glimpse of something white and square that was NOT the long pad of paper provided nor a black pen.
Wonder why Fox News didn't show the whole sequence from the handshake on.
As a former professional videographer and amatuer photographer, I can tell you that black doesn't reflect light, it absorbs it. A white pen would be far more likely to reflect light.
I personally think Kerry initially pulled something other than a pen from his pocket, perhaps the pen was with the other object. Once he laid the "pen" down on the lecturn he began to handle it and move it around; he even looked closely at it and continued to arrange it. That's a whole lot of attention to pay to a pen.
It was just a little piece of surrender cheese a monkey gave him for good luck...
Ditto, and there is no doubt that it was a pen.
He pulls the pen out, then he uncaps it and puts the cap on the top of the pen, really! Unless you think FOX has CBS'ed the video, the story is over unfortunately.
I feel like Im insane to keep harping on this dead horse, but damn if i didnt slow down the video again and see what looks like something in his right hand.
The Great Kerridini
If its shiny though wont it reflect? Lots of really bright lights on stage. I think he pulled some paper up from the bottom storage area of the podium to write on with his right hand and fumbled around with it a little. Im ready to pounce on this guy big time but I dont think we have anything here that doesnt make us look silly right now. We need more data to go further with it. The pen was against the rules though. No question. Cheat Notes? I just dont see anything strong enough yet.
It was a spy camera...LOL
Guess Im in lucky I just bought a super hi-res photo printer.
Just to be rude I will print those out and annoy some people.
It looked to me like a note card, but it was really hard to tell. Unfortunately, I videoed it in SLP. But as Kerry got prepared to answer the first question, he fiddled with something on the podium for a moment. And I noticed that as Lehrer was asking him the first question that he looked down as though checking out something. And he definitely used two pens throughout the debate--both a black and a white one.
But you could be right about it being Kerry's cuff. That would also have looked like a note card. The lighting made it hard to figure out, not to mention the distance.
Yes, the light did reflect off the black pen. I saw Kerry first use a white pen and later use a black one. At first, I thought the black one was white because of the light. But as he used it, it was obvious it was black. But it made me doubt about whether or not he had used a white one earlier, so I went back and checked. He used a white one initially and then used a black one. I only watched a few minutes into the debate, so I don't know which one he continued to use.
