Bush attacks Kerry plans for national security (Bush to deliver "significant speech" tomorrow)

CLIVE, Iowa -- President Bush charged yesterday that Sen. John Kerry's policies "are dangerous for world peace" as his campaign suddenly changed plans for holding an event on medical liability tomorrow and scheduled a speech by the president on terrorism and the economy instead.

If Kerry's vote had carried the day, the president said, "Saddam would not only have been in his palaces, that means he would have been in Kuwait as well. The policies of my opponent are dangerous for world peace. If they were implemented, they would make this world not more peaceful, but more dangerous."

Kerry, Bush said, "has no plan. A summit won't solve the problem. Strong, consistent leadership is what this world needs."

Scott McClellan, the White House press secretary, said that Bush would still travel tomorrow to Wilkes-Barre, Pa., as scheduled, but that the medical liability event had been postponed and Bush would now deliver a speech there "on our nation's two highest priorities," which McClellan said were the campaign against terrorism and the economy. He said it would be a "significant speech."

I don't know. This article and some others said the speech is on Wednesday, then I found another one, which says it's today, at 10:10 am, EDT, which means it's past, but I haven't seen anything about what he said, if it was indeed today.

At the White House press conference, Scott McClellan said it's Wednesday.

"One scheduling update, on Wednesday, the President -- we announced that he was going to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. That event was scheduled for a focus on medical liability with President Bush. That has been postponed, but we will still be going to Wilkes-Barre. The President will give a significant speech on our nation's two highest priorities: the war on terrorism and the economy. The President will talk about the clear choices and real differences facing the American people on these big issues. "

So based on the other article and this info, it's likely that it's on Wednesday, at 10 am or 10:10 am EDT.

Cheney will do some serious damage to the Kerry campaign tonight, W will then create some serious issues regarding sKerry's lack of strength/character/ideas, etc., then the gloves will completely come off on Friday. I strongly believe that the Bush campaign wanted to play it safe last week to let sKerry create his "final position" on Iraq/foreign policy, etc. in front of the American public (68 million people), then this week they will be able to use his words against him and destroy any remaining credibility. Thoughts?

I agree with your assessment, maybe Bush was deliberately playing for a draw in the debate. I just hope the Bush campaign will really really takes the gloves off and goes for the jugular, starting about now.

Bad tactics. Makes Bush look reactive and defensive. He should have waited until the next debate and/or done more TV ads. How many swing voters will watch his address?

You can't change the past, but I surely hope Bush and Cheney and their team will focus on demolishing Kerry and Edwards from now until election day.
