"Ping" is typically used to alert another freeper to a thread they may be interested in. The 'pinged' thread will show up on their "my Comments" listing.
"BTTT" (bump to the top) or "BUMP" is typically used to move the article to the top of the latest posts list so more people will be likely to see it.
