Even though it's the day before a 3-day-long Jewish holiday, I put my cooking and preparations aside to hear a speech by President Bush on the campus of Oakland Community College in Farmington, MI.
Security was VERY VERY tight. My son and I got tickets for the event from jewsforgeorge.com. The rally was held on the sports field and the grass was very muddy. No one wanted to sit or stand on a Bush/Cheney poster and disrespect the President and the Flag, and there weren't any Kerry/Edwards posters at the site. Anyway my New Balance sneakers lost their nice white look and the hem of my skirt got filthy. It was much worse for a group of Black church people wearing their Sunday best. Not to mention the Secret Service who were very distinctive with their shaved heads, mirror shades, black suits, wingtips and earpieces.
My son and I had tickets to the "inner circle" which was closer to the President, not that close and the ground was even muddier. And of course being a very short person I could barely see the President, but there he was, and gave an excellent speech, which was interrupted frequently by whistles, cheers and chants of FOUR MORE YEARS!! Every time he mentioned his opponent's name, the crowd chanted "Flip Flop! Flip Flop!"
Anyway my son and I had a great time. Were any other Michigan FReepers there? If you saw a short red-haired lady wearing a black trench coat with a tall, good-looking bearded guy wearing a black suit and a pumpkin-colored shirt, that was me and my son "kazatzkeh."

I forgot to mention that the KKK (Krazy Kooks for Kerry) staged their own "counter-protest" but they weren't allowed to get any closer than five miles from the Bush rally. There must have been at least 1000 people who came to hear Bush (I'm not much good at crowd estimating, but it sure looked like a lot of people from my vantage point), but the KKK could only muster about a dozen nutcakes. This is the only picture of the rally I could find on the news wire.

U.S. President Bush (news - web sites) shakes hands with supporters after speaking at a campaign rally in Farmington Hills, Michigan, October 6, 2004. Bush, looking to regain the momentum after a slip in the polls, said today that Democratic rival John Kerry (news - web sites)'s 'defensive mind-set of September the 10th' would paralyze the United States in a dangerous world. What is it with Classy, Red-Haired women being the smartest in MI???
HillarysLovelyLegs (also Red-Haired) had tickets to give away. I'm sure she was there.
This time, my girls had tons of work and I had a dentist appointment. I wish I could have been there to finally meet you.
Geez, I think it's time to change my hair color!

Cool, I grew up in West Bloomfield and took classes at OCC while I was in high school. Glad to hear the Prez is making a real effort in Michigan. Unfortunately I currently live in non-swing Washington state, and am unlikely to see any campaigning here :(

Could you ping me when you get more pics.
There would have been one more, but President Bush only comes to Michigan during the week, when I'm at work.

Could someone tell me if Bush is speaking tonite. I have searched all over but I cannot find anything. Thanks.

They must have watered down the field because I haven't seen rain in this state in over two weeks. I could barely stick my Bush/Cheney yard sign in the ground is so dry.

I was there. I worked the volunteer security. I was stationed right in front of the SS mags. I was at mag 2. from 9:30Am this morning until they closed the gates at 2:30pm.
Afterward, us volunteers were situated up front. The President had some great lines about the debate. A great experience. I worked the rally in Wayne County a few weeks ago as well. That rally was not as large or as organized, but I got to sit on the dais behind the President which was awesome. All in all, both experiences were great and my pleasure to work for our President.

I was there. Drove from Livingston County. I was way in the back and there were thousands behind me. It was packed. I'd say 15,000.

CBG and I are both in mid-Michigan, Lansing area. We haven't had a good rain in recent memory.
I had to use a hammer for the yard signs and then watched as a felon kicked them over. I called his parle officer the next morning. Now he walks on the other side of the street.
At least he can't vote!

" At least he can't vote"
You wanna bet?
Apparently felons are in great demand by the Dems this year for a number of "employment opportunities". Knocking down yard signs seems to be one. Busting into Republican HQ's seems to be another.
Glad you caught him....take care ....but the DEMS canNOT be allowed to get away with these crimes.

Hey Dan,
I'd love to know how many people were there if you get a count. Its so hard to gage. Where did you park?

Hi,
I didn't see you there, but wish I had. I'd have loved to met a fellow freeper. I worked as a volunteer and when we went inside to our designated areas just before he spoke, I was horrified at the mud. That was really too bad. There were so many ladies with heels on. I can't imagine how they fared!
But mud aside, it was a beautiful, picture perfect day, and our President was fabulous.
I was also surprised and happy to see that Bill Lambier supported our President.
