Jim DeMint in South Carolina is our second most important Senate candidate recommendation (Tom Coburn of Oklahoma is #1), and it is a critically important race we simply can not lose. We did a poll last week that showed him ahead by 12 points, but other polls show the lead in the single digits. His opponent touts a Democratic poll showing her narrowly ahead.
His liberal opponent, Inez Tenenbaum, has been plastering Jim for his support of replacing the income tax with a fair and simple tax system. Her TV ads are a complete distortion of his position. What a surprise . . . liberal lies against a free-market champion.
Tenenbaum obviously likes the IRS and is oblivious to the way the current tax system hurts economic growth. She even favors retaining the Death Tax and in her post as State Superintendent of Education, she supported massive statewide tax hikes and opposed school choice. With all her backing from lawyers, its no surprise she opposes tort reform, too.
Labor unions, lawyers, and lobbyists have already donated over $500,000 to Tenenbaums campaign, and theres more to come. Club for Growth members need to counter that deluge of liberal money.
Jim is one of the most free-market and principled men in Congress. Heres a quick recap of Jims outstanding record. Earlier this year, Jim received the prestigious lifetime Taxpayer Hero citation from Citizens Against Government Waste. He has earned A grades from the National Taxpayers Union four times. A man of his word, DeMint promised to serve three terms in the House and he did.
Jim was one of the 25 Republican heroes who voted AGAINST the fiscally irresponsible Medicare expansion bill last year, even though he was told that it would hurt his chances of winning the Senate seat. He is the author of the most comprehensive proposal for Social Security personal accounts in the U.S. House.
Among all the Republicans running for Senate nationwide, we strongly believe that Jim is the cream of the crop.

Tenenbaum can't cream DeMint.
Republicans are fortunate that the 'Rats picked a paper tigress like Inez Tennenbaum. If I were a 'Rat official in South Carolina, I would have supported Columbia Mayor Bob Coble, a pro-life, pro-gun moderate. But he was elbowed aside for liberal Tennenbaum and the 'Rats are now paying the price. I wish I knew who annointed her so that I could send that person a thank-you note.
DeMint's victory will be both DeLightful and DeLovely
The runoff between DeMint and Beasley really helped the GOP. DeMint was largely unknown to Low Country voters. Inez would have started off with greater name ID in the general election. However the media hyped GOP primary battle gave DeMint much needed media attention. By winning the GOP runoff, DeMint was able to use that momentum to seize the early lead in the general election and never look back.
