U.S. gives Virginia cash to fight gangs
The Washington Times ^ | 10/7/2004 | Jon Ward

The spread of street gangs in Virginia has prompted the federal government to give Gov. Mark Warner $3 million in nondiscretionary funds to fight the problem.

'snip'

Gang members have spread to other parts of the state from Northern Virginia, which is one of the main hubs on the East Coast for the largest and most violent Hispanic gang known as Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13.

The latest FBI report concluded MS-13 has about 2,000 members in Northern Virginia. Fairfax County police have estimated that the region has a total of more than 4,000 gang members. The report also found gang activity in Fredericksburg, Culpeper, Winchester, Harrisonburg, Danville, Lynchburg and Shenendoah Valley, and that those gangs are mostly made up of illegal Hispanic immigrants.

Not stated in the article is the fact that my Congresscritter, FRANK WOLF, won't even answer letters concerning illegal immigration. Manassas, Virgina paper recently reported during our Hispanic celebration that 30% of our population is now Hispanic - that is people from Hispania?

Possibly part of the War on Terror.

AlQaeda has been interested in enlisting gang members.

Virginia is next to Washington DC.

Gang shooting in Irongate, a townhouse subdivision just on the other side of Manassas.

Friend of mine lives in Irongate, lived there since '95, but the neighborhood has gone to hell despite his attempts to stop it (neighborhood watch, homeowner's association). He's finally gotten fed up and put his house up for sale and is moving out.

The house where the gang shooting happened is now empty and owned by the Prince William County Police.

The person that was shot lived within walking distance of where I live.

Gang violence seems like an awfully high price to pay for cheap labor, doesn't it?

Don't we have enough of our own home-grown criminals without importing more?

Doing the crimes no American gang members want to do....

Seriously, this is a frightening aspect of illegal immigration. What I've read of these groups makes me quite apprehensive. And to add insult to injury is that there are cities with "santuary policies" leaving innocent people at the mercy of these thugs.

Numbersusa.com gave Frank Wolf a fairly decent rating on immigration, believe it or not.

He seems to be wishy-washy on the subject. I'm sure he doesn't want to alienate the cheap-labor lobby.

Speaking of which, I've heard from two difference sources that JSC Concrete based in Manassas Park is probably one of the area's largest employers of illegals.

Francisco Barros, the owner of the company, even admitted that many of his employees don't have driver's licenses. Now why could that be?

(This all came out when JSC built a warehouse in Manassas Park on Digital Drive next to Belmont Station, and there was a big uproar over it, one of the theories going around that Francisco Barros wanted to drop the property values in Belmont Station so he could house his employees there...yea, sounds kinda crackpot).

Good! Bush is a great President, but I really disagree with his lax illegal immigration stance. I lived in No.VA for years. For those of you who don't know, it's essentially a suburb of D.C. I'm hoping the illegals problem starts to hit home in the Capitol City. Maybe it'll wake them up.

The war on terror comes first, but I don't think it would cost that much to round up the illegals and ship 'em out.

Unfortunately, according and interview I recently heard with Congressman Tancredo (R-CO) Bush has no plans to kick the illegals out. Bush is honest about his stance and Tancredo claims that it's the President's true compassion for "unfortunates" that drives his position

Tancredo said they only way we can do it is push our local reps to back legislation. Tancredo's web page about Immigration Impacts On...

If I could talk to the President, I'd ask him where his compassion is for me, when I'm paying $475/mo for health insurance and the illegals just walk in the emergency room for free, while not paying taxes, and sending money to their "home" countries? I could go on with a whole litany of other drains the illegals put on me and the system.

Arlington County said that they will not enforce the new Virginia state law allowing law enforcement officials to detain illegal aliens who have a felony conviction.

The Washington Times reported in June or July that the VA General Assembly delegate Bob G. Marshall (R-Manassas) said something to the effect of, "Fine, if they don't want to enforce the law, we'll turn off their water!".

I used to vacation in the NC/Virginia area in the 90's.

I don't remember anything like this. Things sure got ugly fast.

Dealing with illegals is a very integral part of the War on Terror. A part that our Fearless Leader is completely neglecting.

Virginians need to arm themselves, even more than they currently are. It should be encouraged, and in some cases perhaps even required, rather than merely allowed.

Gangs are a huge problem everywhere. My son-in-law

was in a gang unit in Orlando with the Orange

Country Sheriff's Dept. where they have over

100 different gangs of every denomination you

can think of, some of them national in scope.

They deal in everything and the bigger ones are

now getting into white collar crime. My son-in-law

produced a video that will someday be shown in

elementary schools to try and keep kids from

joining at an early age. By their teens they

can be lost.

Gangs are an especially large problem in areas where you have large groups of people who broke the law by entering the country, never got punished, and then came to the conclusion that our laws are a complete joke.

Didn't one of the 9/11 hijackers pick up ID from an illegal in VA?

I don't recall for sure, but I do know that as a result of 9/11, it's damn near impossible for an illegal to get a driver's license in this state, and if you have an immigrant visa, your license will expire on the same month that the visa does.

Which has resulted in a large number of hispanics at the Prince William Courthouse charged with driving without a license. The Spanish to English translator is, of course, provided free of charge, courtesy of the taxpayers.

If MS-13 has been contacted by AQ and other terrorists to assist smuggling members of Islamofacist groups into America is true, then this is wonderful.

How else would LEO's be able to crack these foreign based and controlled gangs operating here.

It would seems the link between terrorist and MS 13 is real.

If the LEO's stop even one virgin seeking, Koran reading, child killing follower of Bin Laden obtaining martydom while in America they will be a success.

Michelle Malkin's book "Invasion" cites this. Turns out 2 9/11 "pilots" went to VA and met an illegal from...........take a guess...........El Salvador. El Salvador is where MS-13 originates. Guy was able to get two VA driver's licenses for the terrorists. The terrorists, in turn, were able to get additional ID for three other conspirators.

Gives me the creeps just reading this again.....

our porous borders after the election, no telling

how many terrorists are crossing.
