CNN's Brown Suggests Bush "Apologize" for Bad Intel on Iraq
Media Research Center ^ | 10-8-04 | Medial Reseach Center

CNN's Aaron Brown opened Thursday's NewsNight by asking a question, the very posing of which suggested he believes the answer is yes: "Should the President apologize for the pre-war intelligence that was flat-out wrong on Iraq?" Interviewing a guest a bit later, Brown inquired: "Should the President do what Tony Blair did and essentially apologize for the intelligence?"

Pairing how Bush should apologize for Iraq with the question of whether Kobe Bryant's accuser should be identified, CNN anchor Brown posited in his "Page Two" comments at the start of the October 7 NewsNight: "Good evening, again. The program tonight is full of questions, and we highlight two of them at the top. Should the President apologize for the pre-war intelligence that was flat-out wrong on Iraq? That it was wrong is not a debatable point. We now know there were no weapons of mass destruction, the primary reason given for the war. Tony Blair apologized for the faulty intelligence. Should the President, in the midst of an election campaign, do the same?"

Brown brought aboard Bush supporter Jed Babbin, a former Deputy Undersecretary of Defense, and Kerry backer Dan Feldman, a former National Security Council advisor.

Brown to Babbin: "I do think to some extent both sides are spinning a little bit on what the report says. The President today said that Iraq still had, that Iraq had the means and intent. David Kay just said that's just not at all, at least on the subject of means, what the report says."

But Brown also pressed Feldman: "Dan, doesn't Senator Kerry have a problem here given that he looked at all this intelligence and he voted to authorize, and it makes it harder to argue with all of this as it comes out, doesn't it?"

Brown followed up with Feldman: "Should the President do what Tony Blair did and essentially apologize for the intelligence?"

Finally, to Babbin: "Do you believe, just a slightly different question, do you believe if the country had known that there were no WMD in Iraq, that the President could have convinced the country to go to war?"

To complete my thought: Madeline Albright said those 500,000 deaths were justified "to contain the THREAT of Saddam."

Has everyone completely forgotten would lead to the war on Iraq?

Bush made the decision to invade Iraq based on INTEL from the CIA, British INTEL, Russian INTEL, Jordanian INTEL, and French INTEL. All of these intelligence agencies were in agreement that Iraq possessed WMDs and the facilities to manufacture them. Furthermore, the United Nations Security Council passed resolution 1441 demanding that Saddam fully disclose his programs and turn over his weapons or face military intervention. In addition, both the Senate (John Kerry and John Edwards) and House passed and signed the bill granting Bush the authority to use military force against Iraq. But somehow all of these facts have conveniently forgotten about.

Not to mention the scathing criticisms Bush faced post 9/11. Basically accusing him for ignoring the INTEL of the mounting terrorist threats and not effectively dealing with them.

So in the instance of 9/11, Bush was supposed to have acted on a small unspecific intelligence report, that (at that time) may have been viewed to be a potential threat to US national security, with no concurring sources of intelligence?

On the other instance of Iraq, Bush is not supposed to have acted on numerous intelligence reports, form multiple sources, in multiple nations, of a potential threat to US national security?

So if you are willing to overlook everything I stated above then I guess you could say that Bush lied.

What an idiot.

Lets use this as an example:

If a woman goes to marry a man and tells him everything about him to the best of her knowledge, and then a few years into their marriage it turns out that she was incorrect (unintentionally) on some of the info she gave him....should he apologize for believing her? Should he apologize for anything he has done for her over the years as a result of the original info she gave him?

They don't want an apology. They want a man far greater than they will ever be to bow down to them.

Ain't gonna happen. These men can go straight to hell.

Appologize for saving the American people from an emerging terrorist threat that was receiving monetary and political support from our former standard allies???? Get real... what a liberal line... should he appologize... yeah like this "I am sorry that Bill Clinton did not take care of Sadaam in his 8 years of allowing the threat to materialize" I am sorry that America had to undergo an agonizing loss of 3000 citizens slaughtered on 9/11 becasue Bill Clinton didn't take action after the first WTC bombing." I am sorry that 8 years of laziness and sloth in the White House got us to this point in our History but I am doing my best to clean it up" and yest "IT IS HARD WORK STUPID"
