I'm not sure as to the exact message here - does it imply that Helperin is admonishing them for not holding Kerry more accountable?? Or Bush?
Halperin claims that Bush is using "distortions" to capture victory.
"The current Bush attacks on Kerry involve distortions and taking things out of context in a way that goes beyond what Kerry has done," Halperin writes.
Halperin's claim that ABCNEWS will not "reflexively and artificially hold both sides 'equally' accountable" set off a sparks in St. Louis where media players gathered to cover the second presidential debate.
The way Drudge has it worded it is difficult to tell what the context is, but since this is ABC it's probably meant as a Liberal hit job against Bush. I'll be plesantly surprised if otherwise.
I'm not even sure what he means by "hold accountable." MSM propaganda is that they are objective and only report the news. However, "hold accountable" sounds like a policing activity. Perhaps he's referring to checking the factual content of the candidates' statements. But he's telling his people not to hold them equally accountable, which I take to mean that one candidate (probably GWB) will be held to a higher standard of truthfulness than the other.
Wow, come on man. It is a blantant admission that they press is not going to hold Kerry to the same standard, a stated belief that Bush is running fast and loose with the facts and should be called on it, that kerry is running fast and loose with the facts but that is not really what his message is about so ABC should ignore it.
This is worse for ABC than the fake memos story was for CBS. This memo is not fake. We know who wrote it and it is very telling of bias at ABC News.
