Of course the beheading of babies via partial-birth abortion is perfectionly acceptable.

I think it might have just been the horrendous nature of this killing.

Absolutely unbelievable. Yes, he should have been punished; no, not a 25-year sentence...good grief. He would have been better off to have killed her. The court system would have let him out sooner. Man, what a thinker!

Uh, no. Killing his girlfriend would ALSO have been a 3rd Strike offense, and I'm sure would have warranted more than 25 years.

How stupid is this?

"Three Strikes and You're Out" is arbitrary and unjust.

All killing of animals and insects is in our purview.

And I would gladly shoot a varmint that went after animals in my care.

It doesn't matter what the background of someone is when it comes to killing an animal.

I would imagine we have felons working in animal slaughterhouses helping to being you your steaks. Should we send them to prison because they had previously broken the law? Of course not.

Get you laws straight, LawDog.

The sentence is unacceptably harsh. And it doesn't matter what the other two offenses are. Sheesh, John Lennon's killer only had to serve twenty years to life before becoming eligible to apply for parole (which was denied for the second time).

No hole here. Perhaps your post was directed to someone else?

Three strikes has reduced criminal recidivism in California. Do you know how hard it is in California to get felony convictions multiple times ...you really have to work at it... even so not all felonies are considered "strikes".

Thats all the statement anybody here needs from you to make an informed decision about your posts. BigMack

Do you know what the 3 Strikes Law is all about? WE'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT A FIRST OFFENSE.

I think the 3 Strikes Law is a bit Draconian, but let's not pretend that he's getting 25 years for this one offense. IT'S HIS THIRD STRIKE.

No one gets 25 years for something like that for their first offense.

The sentence is unacceptably harsh.

He should be on his knees thanking God that the German Shepherd was not mine.

I'd have shot him, cold, and never thought a thing about it, had he beheaded my dog.

I agree.

Perhaps you need to go back to your prep materials for your state's Bar exam.

As I have stated, killing animals should not be felonies nor should be tried under the concept of "animal cruelty". People who perform such behaviors should be socially scorned or judicially tried only under property laws.

From anotherarticle:

"Deputy District Attorney Heather Brown said anger, not insanity, drove him to beat his dog with a golf club, shove a stake through her heart and then decapitate her with pruning shears. He did those things, Brown said, "all because his girlfriend ... had broken up with him."

"Family members told the Los Angeles Times ... that he had been in and out of jail much of his life.

Think maybe this trusting dog might have suffered?

And that is where progress must be made. A life sentence for stealing a bike is not.

This annoys me.

Why?
Because the liberals in California are more likely to agree with this, and be upset about the beheading of this dog...than the beheading yesterday of British hostage Kenneth Bigley in Iraq!

I'd have him shot, cold....

Your hurt and rage would be understandable, but since we live in a "civilized" society, we must depend on the law to enact justice. Otherwise we'd be like the lynch mobs of the Old West.

It's a matter of "intent" coupled with cruel and malicious action... your comparison doesn't work.

Shooting a man for beheading a dog is justice in my part of the world.

It's not in yours?
