This was Billy Connolly, speaking this week about the British hostage Ken Bigley:
"Perhaps I shouldn't be saying this... aren't you the same as me, don't you wish they would just get on with it?"
The Yinster's word clearly carries a fair weight with Islamic extremist groups, because reports have come in this afternoon that Ken Bigley's captors have finally killed him.
Or rather - Billy Connolly killed him. The terrorists just held the knife. Unwitting pawns in Connolly's ongoing campaign of terror.
For years the west has suffered unspeakable horrors at the hands of Connolly; and to make it worse, we have had to watch him stand there hooting and cackling with ill-disguised glee as we writhe in pain and torment.
The man is a monster. He must be stopped, before anyone else dies.
And yet, to brand Connolly a "monster" is perhaps to suggest that he is acting without rationale - that he has no motive beyond the raw desire to cause suffering in others. Whereas, if we look closer, we can see what drives Connolly to inflict such pain, and what drove him, in his latest act of cruelty, to insist upon the beheading of Ken Bigley...
The reason is simple: Billy Connolly hates our freedom.
He sees our civil liberties, our way of life, our Democracy, our freedom of speech, and it burns him up inside. Nothing short of the death of Ken Bigley would quench his fury.
For how long this will satisfy him, it is impossible to say. With luck, it'll last him till Christmas - when he'll probably lash out at our freedoms once more, with a vicious 2 hour special from the Palladium.
God help us all.
The British, when outraged, have perfected shunning to a high art. Billy may find it particularly chilly this season.
Who on earth is this sicko person? I have never heard of him.
They should only "get on with it" if they are cutting their own throat!
I defy these people who make glib remarks about these animals to watch one..JUST ONE of these beheadings. I would give you a whole new perspective.
Sadly, if it takes watching a beheading to tweak one's conscience then that person never had one to begin with.
I've never heard of him before, either. Drop him of in Iran and let's see how he likes it there.
to me he is no worse than Michael Moore....or anyone else of that ilk.....
Are they talking about that guy who was an actor on "Head of the Class" way back when?? Saying he's a monster? Surely not...
Yawn. No, the terrorists killed him.
They have a morbid patience.
Billy Connolly is a dangerous man. He almost caused me to choke to death once. I had made the mistake of drinking something while watching one of his stand-up routines. I think it was the line about Scots' beards that "looked like they've got the ass-end of a bear sticking out of their mouths" that nearly did me in.
...and a long memory.
I agree. The joke was obviously in extremely bad taste---but it's bizarre that they'd place the blame on a second-rate comedian...
That was Probably funnier than Connolly ever was.
What most Americans don't realize is this type of thing, refered to as 'taking the piss' in the UK, is almost a national sport there.
I saw Connoly on TV, I waited and waited for him to say something funny. From what I could tell the essence of his routine is an absurd amount of swearing, with his Scottish accent. The apparently drunk audience seemed to love him though, they seemed really entertained. I just didn't get it, he didn't make me laugh. I laugh like crazy at some of South Park, so I'm not a grump about swearing as part of humor.
Though I didn't find him funny, I would give him slack about making a shocking statement like this during one of his routines. That's the essence of that type of shock humor, sometimes there is a little bit of truth in things that are just wrong and insensitive to say. I agree with the freeper who said it was stupid to say the comedian killed the hostage. The terrorists killed the hostage, and that's that. The writer went overboard in trying to demonize the comedian.
Billy Connolly is also an ex member of the Parachute Regiment. As such he would have been well versed in squaddie humour (Black humour). Billy should have kept in to himself in this case - no need for it. I hope he makes an apology for his ill timed remark.
The recent articles I have seen on the subject of an apology
say he isn't going to. He should, and soon.
So who is Bill Connolly and why should I care?
