Saturday's vote was an exception: Prime Minister John Howard, a strong ally of America in general, was committed to supporting the United States in the Afghan and Iraq wars. Labor's leader, Mark Latham, had committed his party to bring home most Aussie troops in Iraq by Christmas.
If Labor had won, the world would have seen the result as a dramatic erosion of international support for George Bush's Iraq intervention...

At risk was a splintering of the English-speaking alliance (America, Australia and Great Britain) that has been the moral and military core of the war on terrorism.

A Howard defeat would have been a setback for the Anglosphere, a disaster for the United States and a catastrophe for George W. Bush (and Tony Blair). And it would have been celebrated as such make no mistake by France, Germany, Middle Eastern despots, the United Nations, and the massed NGOs (non-governmental organizations) of the "international community."
But Howard won. Indeed, he won a landslide of sweeping proportions something rare by the standards of the cautious Aussie electorate. ...[snip]... He gained control of the Senate the first time since 1981 that the Coalition has controlled both Houses.

thanks again!
Great News!
The Aussies are a braver lot than we Americans. We'll probably thank them by electing Kerry - nightmare!
Tough bunch downunder!
Love to go to Austrailia and spend some of my money there to show support.
Great news from down under. Now they need to get rid of those stupid gun laws down there!
A country where Grannies jump on crocs to save a life is worthy of friendship. Thanks, Aussies!
You can bet if Howard would have lost it would have been headlines all over the place.
One Kerry down (Diana), one to go...
,,, Australia's a country that's going ahead. Voting John Howard in again was the only intelligent and decent option to stay on a great path forward.
Good on ya, mates!
GO AUSSIES GO!! YEAH!!
Leading up to the election it was looking like a loss, according to the polls and cultural elite in the media here, but we made it. After the victory I went looking for international opinion and found FA, aside from a link to you lot (and a few links to wankers spouting anti-US / anti John Howard garbage). So I signed up. Hopefully there are enough legends in the USA to get George Dubya over the line.
Excellent news from down under!
Thank you, Australia, for your unwavering support and friendship - we love you guys!
