ReganBooks Rips Off Regnery

Monday, October 11, 2004. -- New York-based ReganBooks today unveiled an anti-Bush book, Unfit Commander, in an apparent effort to capitalize on the hyper-successful anti-Kerry book by Regnery Publishing, Unfit for Command.

Surprisingly, ReganBooks, a generally highly regarded publisher, lifted virtually every aspect of the Regnery book's appearance -- the title, colors, layout, font, even the finger-pointing style of the picture used on the jacket all mimic Regnery's effective cover.

Perhaps the imitation should come as no surprise, given the success of Unfit for Command. Sources at Regnery (a HUMAN EVENTS sister company) say that almost 500,000 copies of Unfit for Command have already sold, and tens of thousands continue to sell each week. Unfit for Command was #1 on the New York Times Best-Seller list for four weeks, and is currently #3.

Regan, an imprint of HarperCollins (in turn a subsidiary of News Corporation, the same company that owns the Fox News Channel), was once known for its well-published conservative books, including those by Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, and Robert Bork. Regan has seemingly done the ultimate flip-flop however, in now publishing this anti-Bush attack book.

Idiotic lefties can't even come up with an original idea. No surprise here. Reqan books is going to have a miserable time selling only to lefties. They should ask the Dixie Chicks how well that's working.

An infringement in several respects, but doing anything about it would only help the enemy.

Unless the vets want the added publicity to go with it. But it would only make them look pissy.

Looks too much like Unfit for Command that it might be mistaken for it.. Possible infringement?

Yes, but we dont want to go back to the Foxnews Vs. Al Franken and make it an instant best seller.

Ignore it and it will go nowhere. If someone can't tell the difference between 350 Honorable men that served with John Kerry and some idiot who starts an organization by himself to attack Bush, then they deserve to waste their money on it.

Isn't it odd that Judith Regan had her own special on Fox News Channel last night. Her after-hours show was dumped some time ago...looks like Roger Ailes is hedging his bets and trying to ingratiate himself with the DNC. Bah!

I just saw a few minutes of Judith Regan last night. She asked her son how he felt about growing up without his father's presence, and the way she did so just seemed to trash the kid's father. Maybe she should have him on next time to give his side of the story.

And it's also quite a betrayal that her company would publish such a book.
