European colonists still considered the Indian to be a noble savage that could be educated into honorary whites. Of course, it depended on which tribes they ran into. Not every tribe of indigenous people were bloody. I was just reading that fact today in Dinesh D'Souza's book What's So Great About America? That's a really good book, and End to Racism is his finest.

What did Columbus have to say about his discovery of America? We will let his words tell you the truth:

"It was the Lord who put into my mind (I could feel his hand upon me) the fact that it would be possible to sail from here to the Indies. All who heard of my project rejected it with laughter, ridiculing me....
There is no question that the inspiration was from the Holy Spirit, because He comforted me with rays of marvelous inspiration from the Holy Scriptures....
I said that I would state my reasons: I hold alone to the sacred and Holy Scriptures, and to the interpretations of prophecy given by certain devout persons....
I am a most unworthy sinner, but I have cried out to the Lord for grace and mercy, and they have covered me completely. The working out of all things has been assigned to each person by the Lord, but it all happens according to His sovereign will, even though he gives advice. He lacks nothing that it is in the power of men to give Him. Oh, what a gracious Lord, who desires that people should perform for Him those things which He holds Himself responsible! Day and night, moment by moment, everyone should express the most devoted gratitude to Him."

Thanks. It's a good thread. Plus, think of what would happen if everyone stayed where they were. Western European civilization didn't take it's great leap forward till they started exploring the world. IMHO I think Western Europe would have been pretty backward if they just stayed right where they were.

I notice that none of the multicultural whiners and American Indian guilt-givers ever mention the Vikings, who also had an early hostile encounter with the natives.

Let's face it: If it hadn't been Chris it would've been somebody else sooner or later. Europe was emerging from the Middle Ages, it would have been impossible to keep them out even if Mr. C had failed.

The French Catholicism you mention - before France lost its way in one Revolution, Terror and Fraternity after another (until it's where it is today). For the founders, it was mostly Protestantism, but not necessarily Anglicanism (but rather sects persecuted by the Anglicans, via the police arm of the state). THAT is clearly the - why - for such political correctness. They have weakened the structural churches, particularly the Catholic Church. At the top, there is waste and ruin. But believers are still believers. And what's worse, centuries of those assumptions are still the fabric of America, and still what makes the nation great. They need to attack those Christian underpinnings. That's the - why.
