Is that really fair? They were in college..70's..free love and all that..they were in a relationship, they broke up, tried to connect somehow after, and something happened. To bring it up now is a cheap shot..there is NOTHING in the guy's history since then to indicate what you imply. He deserves the benefit of the doubt, and credit for a life of service ( though, albeit, as a Dem, misguided). again, that's why many good people will NOT go into public service...look at the confirmation processes in the Senate.

By what standards? The guy is still a total nut job. He even LOOKS like a nutjob. That means he's pretty messed up, since most people with those sorts of problems can hide it. The guy still behaves erratically, his body language says he's out to lunch.

You must be kidding. First, free love was not part of the 1976 scene, especially at Stanford.

Second, the police found him with scratches on his face, and he reportedly used a pillow to stifle her screams. That is not excessive amore, it is violent rape stopped by a tough gal.
