That way they can never be held accountable for their words later on. Their tactic is to keep it superficial, don't commit, no conviction. It says a great deal about our Republic that a true conservative like Keyes has no chance of being elected. He now assumes the role of a third party candidate and espouses highly ideologic but non-electable positions that you and I might agree with.
