Congressman Pete Sessions'(R-TX) Streaking Stunt {from 1974} Exposed
Drudge Report ^ | 10-12-04 | Not given

Old school days long gone, but not forgotten: Congressman's streaking stunt exposed

DALLAS The gloves have come off in a tight election race between two Texas congressmen -- and every other article of clothing appears to be fair game as well.

Democrats are circulating old newspaper clippings of a 1974 college streaking stunt staged by hundreds of students at what was then called Southwest Texas State University.

One of the participants was an 18-year-old freshman named Pete Sessions -- who grew up to become a conservative Republican congressman.

A Sessions spokesman says the congressman's "old school days are long gone" and that he recognizes the streaking stunt was "an immature action."

But the campaign of Democrat Representative Martin Frost is holding his rival's bare body to the fire, saying he "exposed himself to children and strangers."

The two incumbents are battling each other in a new Republican-leaning district in the Dallas area. Frost, Texas' senior congressman, had his district redrawn by Republicans last year.

So were you a streaker or just a witness (reluctant or otherwise)?

I think Sessions should probably win this one based on the demographics. Frost's old district was a gerrymandered enclave of libs which, I think, was created in previous redistricting in order to give the dems a seat. District lines more fairly represent the area now.

I hope Tom Delay sends him flowers on November 3.

It was 30 years ago, it is irrelevant.
Those were crazy times back then.
We've all done things in our youth that was foolish.
It was a personal choice.
It's just about sex.

Oh, wait, he's a REPUBLICAN...
Whoops. What I meant was...
How despicable! The shock, the horror, the man is unfit for office! What about the children?!? THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!

I was there too, in the early 70s at college. Streaking was a big fad at my school - but I was a nice Southern girl up North for the first time and I wasn't having any of it (my grandmother would have come back to haunt me anyhow!)

You have to understand that this wasn't a sexual thing and it wasn't threatening or nasty. It was just college kids being silly, the equivalent of stuffing 38 fraternity boys into a Volkswagen or a shaving cream fight.

A bunch of us girls were sitting in the library one time when 50 or 60 guys came streaking through. They had forgotten, however, about the turnstiles at the entrance . . . which were just about the height of their, ah, tender bits. The guys were yelling "OOOH! OUCH! OW!" and all us coeds were covering our eyes and having giggle fits.

Beware, Martin Frost

I'm still waiting for an opportunity to give Martin a spare piece of my mind for calling me uninformed! You know us women, we don't forget. :-) I still haven't had my chance at rebuttal. :-)

you forgot to add the #1 incentive ... DRUNK or HIGH!

LOL! If being drunk and high made people want to strip and run around butt naked, the streets would be filled with the naked.....

I don't know if Sessions or Frost will win, but I would not be surprised at the outcome either way. There are Republicans supporting Frost in the district. The Houston Chronicle found some last week.

someone already mentioned the OTHER main ingredient - youthful stupidity!

I was at a party in jan 1971 at Texas A&M during an ice storm when someone had this bright idea of streaking the 'quad' Everyone jumped up, stripped down and went running out the door in the sleet ....

I had a good view of bare butts as I closed the door and stayed in the warm toasty room - hehehhee

Bet there are democrats supporting Sessions also....

Frosty may win but it would be a surprise for him to overcome a district voting trend with the President on the ballot and him being a new representative to a large number of the electorate.

I was in college in 1974, and it was not all that uncommon that people of college age were "streaking". (I'm not going to answer your next question, on the grounds that it may incriminate me!)

I know it seems weird, but it was a different world 30 years ago.

I certainly intend to vote for Pete Sessions and this is now a heavily Republican district via the re-districting by the Texas legislature (ya'll remember the dem legislators high-tailing to OK and to NM to try and prevent it from happenin'?). However, reports are that despite all his demo pandering, especially to trial lawyers, Frost has done a lot for local business and they aren't forgetting it. are helping him, etc. This will be one nasty election between Sessions and Frost.

There was a streaker at my high school graduation in 1974. Someone hid him in the orchestra section and he ran across the stage out a side exit. The graduating class gave him a standing ovation and all the parents were furious and mortified.

The streaker dated a friend of mine. The funny thing was that he ran right by her mom who was taking pictures on the sideline. My friend's mom never recognized him. We always joked that she never looked at his face.

I think what we all forget -- with today's tell-all television shows, internet pornography, and little kids dressing like "hos" and "players" -- is that it really was a more innocent and carefree time.

I can remember us girls skinny-dipping at summer camp in the moonlight . . . absolutely no sexual component to it at all, in those days 12 year old girls really were mostly innocent (and those who weren't kept it to themselves).

LOL. Things are very different. We were fortunate to have grown up in a more innocent time. I've seen kids on TV dancing with all that bumping and grinding. It just makes me sick. How can a girl expect for a boy to treat her with any kind of respect if she allows him to "dance" with her like that?

You've got to be two tacos short of a combination plate

Well, unfortunately many people that age, no matter how intelligent otherwise, seem to get very stupid at times.

Thankfully I did not go through such a phase as this myself.
