TONIGHT'S DEBATE

Until tomorrow, I'll just limit my remarks to this.

Do not ... I repeat DO NOT engage in a drinking game where you take a shot of hooch every time John Kerry says "middle class" or "I have a plan." You don't want to risk alcohol poisoning.

LET'S REVISIT BESLAN FOR A MOMENT

Please ... tell me you remember Beslan. It was in Beslan just about a month ago that some Islamic terrorists took hundreds of children and adults hostage in a school. These brave warriors of Islam rigged the school with explosives. You remember how it ended, don't you? As school children tried to escape after the explosions began these mighty followers of Mohammed started shooting them in the back. Shooting children in the back!

Why bring this up again? Hell ... it ought to be brought up every single hour of every single day right up the close of the polls on November 2nd. These are the people George Bush wants to track down and destroy, along with the governments and enable and harbor them ..... and these are the people that John Kerry wants to track down with international cops, and those he can't convict at trial he wants to reduce to a mere nuisance level.

Today Bill Gertz is reporting in the Washington Times that US security officials are investigating an intelligence report that a group of 25 Chechen terrorists illegally entered the United States from Mexico in July. The group is suspected of having links to Islamic terrorists -- including al Qaeda. The group is also said to be wearing backpacks. Reports are that these Islamists traveled to northern Mexico and crossed over the border in a part of Arizona that is difficult to patrol.

Well now, isn't that special! Did we really have 25 Islamic terrorists sneak into the United States illegally with backpacks. And what do you suppose they want? Why would they be coming here? Jobs? Do you think they're going to be hanging sheetrock in Sheboygan? Laying brick in Bristol? I doubt that those were construction tools in those backpacks.

If, in fact, we have Chechnyan Islamists entering the United States through Mexico their intent is clear, they're here to kill. They're here to murder innocent Americans. Maybe they're here to kill your child. They have experience in that field you know.

What a nuisance.

IT'S GOING TO DEPEND ON TURNOUT

I'm noticing multiple stories in the media recently about the tremendous number of people who are registering to vote for the first time. We have 100,000 here, 100,000 there, and 100,000 over yonder ... all filling out voter registration forms at the last minute so that they can rush to the polls.

I find myself wondering about the motivation behind those stories. Are these reporters merely informing us that a large number of Americans have suddenly developed an interest in voting? Or are they setting the stage for massive protests and legal challenges should Bush win the election by a close margin?

My pal Jamie Dupree in Washington disagrees, but I don't think we're going to see this election decided by the morning of November 3rd. Al Gore set the stage ... and the new norm is going to be lawyers and lawsuits. Look for claims that tens of thousands of people who registered to vote before the deadline were denied the opportunity to vote on election day.

What fun.

By the way ... people who register to vote at the last minute are shown to have a tendency to vote against the incumbent. This means that all of these late registrations will benefit Kerry.

It is my belief that an election that hinges on voter turnout will swing toward Democrats. Democrats are leftists. They're collectivists. People who vote Democrat are more likely to adopt a group rather than an individual mentality. Groups are easily manipulated. When the call goes out to head to the polls people with group-obedience mentalities, like union members for instance, are far more likely to react.

People who are predisposed to vote for Republicans, on the other hand, are more individualistic in their outlook. Talking to them is like trying to talk to a flock of pigeons. Getting them to the polls is like herding hamsters.

If turnout is the key, things aren't looking all that good.

MORE MASS GRAVES IN IRAQ

They've found more bodies ... more victims of Saddam Hussein. More mass graves have been unearthed in Iraq. There are bodies of women lying in those graves, still clutching the bodies of their infant children. The women were shot, many of the children died when Saddam's bulldozers covered them and their dead mothers with desert sand.

This is just part of the legacy of Saddam Hussein, the man John Kerry would not have overthrown.

GEORGE BUSH KILLED CHRISTOPHER REEVE

This didn't take long...already it is being insinuated in the press and elsewhere (including the statement by John Edwards) that somehow Christopher Reeve would be alive and walking around today were it not for the mean old George Bush banning federal funding for stem cell research. By the way, you do know that prior to George Bush being elected, there wasn't any funding for stem cell research at all?

You should also know that there is no ban on stem cell research. Never has been. The only restriction is that federal funds cannot be used for new lines of embryonic stem cell research. That's it. This is no different than banning federal funds for say, abortion. You can still have one, it's just that the state isn't going to pay for it. But in the world of the liberals, a lack of federal funds equals a ban. And so it goes.

But perhaps we should see what Christopher Reeve himself had to say on the subject. Earlier this year, Reeve was interviewed by Reader's Digest. He was asked where he stood on federal funding of stem cell research. "I advocate it because I think scientists should be free to pursue every possible avenue. It appears though, at the moment, that embryonic stem cells are effective in treating acute injuries and are not able to do much about chronic injuries." In other words, embryonic stem cell research wouldn't have helped Christopher Reeve.

But that won't stop the left from shamelessly hijacking the legacy of a man who is no longer with us.

I'VE HEARD OF CAMPAIGN PROMISES .... BUT THIS IS GETTING A BIT RIDICULOUS, ISN'T IT?

The Kerry/Edwards gang decided this week to take advantage of the emotionalism surrounding the death of Christopher Reeve. Reeve was genuinely admired by this entire nation. The courage and strength showed by this man impressed all. So, how do you exploit the death of Christopher Reeve for political purposes? You send Super Lawyer to appear before a high school audience to tell them that if John Kerry is elected people like Christopher Reeve, people in wheelchairs, will get up and walk again!

Wow! What a deal! "Hey Mom! Hey Dad! You gotta like vote for John Kerry! You know what I'm sayin'? You gotta like vote for Kerry because do you like remember Shawn? Yeah! Shawn! He was like crippled in a car wreck last year, you know? And if you like vote for like John Kerry Shawn will like walk again because John Kerry can like fix his like spinal chord!"

But wait! Don't stop there! According to Super Lawyer, not only are quadriplegics going to suddenly arise and head for Starbucks for a latte, but grandma is going to suddenly know who you are and she won't be able to hide her own Easter Eggs! Yes, the great and grand Kerry/Edwards team will cure Alzheimer's. And grandpa is going to stop shaking so much because they're going to cure Parkinson's. And you kids in the audience can put away your insulin too! We're going to cure juvenile diabetes!

It goes without saying that only an unadulterated idiot would believe that voting for Kerry would mean a cure for all of these diseases and afflictions. The point here is that idiots are exactly the segment of our population that the Kerry campaign is targeting right now! After the "global test" and "terrorism as a nuisance" comments that's about the only place they can still mine for votes. Unfortunately there are a gracious plenty of idiots who's votes are up for grabs.

What's next? Campaign ads by Stevie Wonder? "Vote for John Kerry so I can see!!!!"

"Grandma! Throw away that wheelchair! We're voting for John Kerry!"

Chechen terrorists probed
By Bill Gertz
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Published October 13, 2004

U.S. security officials are investigating a recent intelligence report that a group of 25 Chechen terrorists illegally entered the United States from Mexico in July.

The Chechen group is suspected of having links to Islamist terrorists seeking to separate the southern enclave of Chechnya from Russia, according to officials familiar with intelligence reports.

Members of the group, said to be wearing backpacks, secretly traveled to northern Mexico and crossed into a mountainous part of Arizona that is difficult for U.S. border security agents to monitor, said officials speaking on the condition of anonymity.

The intelligence report was supplied to the U.S. government in late August or early September and was based on information from an intelligence source that has been proved reliable in other instances, one official said.

A second U.S. official said the report is being investigated, but said it could not be determined whether the group of Chechens actually entered the country, as the intelligence source reported.

"We don't know whether or not that report is true," this official said.

A spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed that the intelligence report was provided by another government agency, but said Border Patrol agents were unable to verify its accuracy.

It could not be learned whether the reported infiltration is related to the recent Education Department warning to school officials to examine security in the aftermath of the attack last month by pro-Chechnya Muslim terrorists on a school in Russia, in which more than 300 people were killed and some 700 wounded.

In the Russian attack, heavily armed Islamists took over and wired with explosives the school building in Beslan, North Ossetia. It is believed that an accidental explosion set off a battle between Russian security personnel and the terrorists, who set off several explosions and shot schoolchildren and teachers as they tried to escape.

U.S. officials believe the Beslan terrorists included some al Qaeda-linked foreign terrorists.

The Education Department letter said that school officials should examine "protective measure guidance" for helping to prevent and respond to a similar terrorist attack, were it to occur in the United States.

The notice said the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are "currently unaware of any specific, credible information indicating a terrorist threat to public and private schools, universities or colleges in the United States."

The letter stated that indicators of terrorist surveillance before an attack include interest in site plans for schools, bus routes and attendance lists from persons who don't normally request such information.

Authorities also were advised to remain alert for "static surveillance" by people who may be disguised as panhandlers, shoeshiners, newspaper or flower vendors, or street sweepers who seem out of place in a particular area.

Other indicators of terrorist surveillance can include spying on school security drills, people staring at employees or vehicles in parking areas, and surveillance by pedestrians.

Fears of an attack on American schools also were raised by the recent discovery in Iraq of a computer disk containing data showing the layout of six schools in the United States, including districts in California, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, New Jersey and Oregon.

Officials believed the disk may have been part of a terrorist plot. However, FBI officials said on Friday that there did not appear to be a terrorist threat connected to the computer disk.

The Iraqi who had the disk, a member of Saddam Hussein's Ba'ath Party, apparently was collecting information from the Internet sites of American schools that would be useful for emergency planning for Iraqi schools, U.S. officials said.

U.S. security officials have been concerned in recent months that al Qaeda or other terrorists are planning to enter the United States from Mexico.

Intelligence officials said a suspected al Qaeda leader who has been in the United States was spotted recently in Mexico. Officials believe Adnan Shukrijumah, whom the FBI wants for questioning, met with alien smugglers in Mexico and Honduras and was seeking ways to bring al Qaeda members into the United States. Shukrijumah was seen in August in the Sonora province of northern Mexico, officials said.

Since October 2003, authorities have arrested five Arabs attempting to cross illegally into the United States from Mexico.

In July, officials dismissed as untrue an Internet report that said a group of Middle Eastern men were recently caught trying to cross the border from Mexico.

The report apparently was based on a group of Oaxacan tribesmen who were stopped as they tried to cross the border in Arizona. The tribesmen spoke an Indian language native to southern Mexico that may have been mistaken for Arabic, officials said at the time.

I think you have Stevie Wonder mixed up with Ray Charles. Ray just passed. Stevie is quite alive.
