SACRAMENTO (AP) - Three members of the California State History Museum have resigned, saying they disagree with a quiet push from California's first lady Maria Shriver to refocus the museum's attention on the accomplishments of women.

Opened in 1998 as the Golden State Museum, the center's current mission is to depict a broad experience of California life. But, according to reports in the Los Angeles Times and the Sacramento Bee, Shriver has successfully lobbied a majority of the museum board to rename the facility as the California Women's History Museum and devote the 25,000 square feet of exhibit space to women's roles in state history.

Trustees Tom Stallard, Karen Sinsheimer and Charles G. Palm have all resigned in response to the decision of the 16-member board to embrace Shriver's ideas at a meeting last month.

Stallard told the newspapers that Shriver is taking the museum away from its original mission - which the state still needs.

"I find it unfortunate that we're giving up the focus on California history," he said. "History is now the subtext and women the major theme, and it should be the other way around."

As a Californian, I am REALLY DISSAPPOINTED IN THIS. It jus smacks of liberalism. I was so hoping she could control her liberal upbringing as the first lady of California. Apparently not.

This state has much bigger problems than how to create museums for women...MUCH BIGGER PROBLEMS.

GROAN! I've posted the link to the Bee article to my mailing list for our county History Center. Let's see if we can get a few historians to scream at Mrs. Governator about this ludicrous decision.

And big ups to the three board members with the guts to stand up to such sophistry!

Hmmm, could it be that Arnold's advisors have told him that he needs to shore up his support among women voters before re-election time? Nah, what am I thinking? It's gotta be just coincidence that his wife has just driven away museum trustees who will be replaced by doctrinaire feminazis and their obedient eunuchs. Hey, what's a little history re-write among friends?
