Fort Lauderdale, FL, Oct. 13 (UPI) - The FBI has arrested two Russian citizens on charges of smuggling dozens of illegal aliens from the former Soviet Union to south Florida.

The FBI arrested Igor Shkinder and Peter Torakis at their homes in the Fort Lauderdale area on charges of smuggling aliens through the Carribean to Florida, The Miami Herald reported Wednesday.

The indictment said the defendants brought Ukrainians and other aliens through the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. The ring used six sailing vessels to transport them, the indictment said.

There were also people smuggled into Arizona - from the same area of the rebels who attacked the school in Russia - if the report was correct -

At least they are catching them - but what will happen later - will they just turn them out into America because businesses need the help -

just a wonder -

Prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. I hope these "sailing vessels" have been confiscated and will not be returned. We have enough illegal aliens in America to last several lifetimes...

There is a good chance that they used rental sail boats. There is a huge charter industry renting sailboats throughout the entire island chain.

Given the reduction in investment, I would surmise they went the rental route.

The owners were probably unaware of what was happening, so I wouldn't support confiscation of the boats used in comission of a crime where the owner of the equipment was unaware of the illegal useage.

By the way, did you consider that the Spanish Inquesition was funded by the confiscated property of the "accused"?

You might be right about that. Americans have homes confiscated from them for lesser offenses (inability to pay taxes), so if the owners of these boats are guilty, I belive their boats should be confiscated so they can't use them again for the same purpose.

Guilty of transporting illegal aliens, or guilty of unknowingly renting their boats to someone who did?

If the latter, then you should have all your property confiscated immediately to prevent criminals from using it in the commission of a crime.

Can't be too careful you know. Who knows who you might lend your car to, or allow to stay in your house?

I wish a crackdown would follow on the Russian Mafia. They are ultra violent. A while back they were linked to a strip club scandal in Florida.

=== The ring used six sailing vessels to transport them

If they were packing the walls of the vessels with steroids and passengers had a minimum of three clean passports a piece, it's very likely they used to have Seven.
