Forget his health care plan. Forget abortion and embryonic stem cell research. Forget even how many times he did or did not vote to raise taxes. Senator John Kerry may have lost three critical votes with a simple aside, when he invoked Vice President Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter as part of an answer on same-sex marriage.
"That is very unfair," blurted Patsey Farrell, 64, one of a handful of undecided voters gathered here to watch the final presidential debate Wednesday night. "I'm sorry, that's too personal. That's too hurtful."
Her son-in-law, Kevin Uhde, the 50-year-old elementary school principal who held this pizza party, agreed. "Not by name," he said, shaking his head at Mr. Kerry on the 24-inch Phillips television set a few yards away. "Why single out one person?"
And Mr. Uhde's wife, Karlen, added, "I think it's like a low blow."

Anyone think this has the potential to truly backfire on Kerry, and become more widespread?

Yes it has... its a disaster for Kerry and if this is an indication, we'll see it over the next couple of days in the polls. As a self-inflicted wound, it was completely unnecessary.

Well, the slimes reported it, so its hard to say. Either its big enough for them to take notice, or they're going to bury on page 20A under an ad and call themselves impartial.

Kerry said it because he thought it would "scare" conservatives away from President Bush.
He BADLY miscalculated.

It'll be ok, because when Kerry is elected his federally funded embryonic stem cell research will bring a cure to such ailments juvenile diabetes, spinal cord injuries and genetic homosexuality. (Not that there's anything wrong with that).
To: West Coast Conservative
Well if the New York Time sees the afront, then there is a possiblity that it will snowball.
I suspect half the gay community will hold their nose and
and vote for Kerry anyway. There might be hope for the other
half.
But where this will really hit home is among those people who were still abused by the notion that the Democrats were the compationate party.
The more I think about it, this could be big...

I said it on another post earlier -- I think this week has actually been the beginning of the melt-down for Kerry-Edwards. Starting with the NYT Magazine article Sunday and then the shameless "Chris Reeves called me Saturday" comments followed by Edwards "when we're elected everyone is going to walk" to Edwards shamless slams against the President last night on Leno and now the Cheney daughter comment and not saying he loved his wife, but instead he married "up"... now they're on their way down... proven now by this being in of all papers -- THE New York Times! (Anyone see Clinton at work here?).

You laid out quite an time line of events;
i.e. self-inflicted wounds.
I can't see Clinton's hands in this,
but only because Edwards and Kerry cut
their own throats.
NYT publishing same "might" be a Clinton orchestration...

Its kind of hard for them to bury coverage of a Presidential debate.
