Liberty Counsel Files Amicus Brief in Case Involving Government Officials, ACLU, and Activist Judge Who Acted Collusively to Undermine Traditional Marriage
Portland, Oregon -- Liberty Counsel filed an amicus brief with the Oregon Supreme Court contesting a state court ruling that declared Oregon's statute, which defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman, unconstitutional. Liberty Counsel is a nonprofit litigation, education, and policy organization dedicated to advancing religious freedom, the sanctity of human life and the traditional family.
In March 2004, the Oregon Attorney General issued an opinion stating that he believed Oregon law which limited marriage to one man and one woman was unconstitutional. A few weeks later, the same Attorney General, the ACLU, a local judge, and county attorneys met and derived a litigation scheme in which all parties would work together in order to challenge Oregon's statutes which define marriage as the union of one man and one woman. During this meeting, it was decided "when" the ACLU would file a lawsuit, "what" the lawsuit would allege, and "who" would be involved in the process. Furthermore, the parties to this collusion decided on an expedited briefing schedule without discovery of evidence. The parties also agreed that the law was to be challenged in summary judgment motions without any substantive evidence. [That is, the fix was in!]
One day after the ACLU filed suit, state legislators in Oregon sought intervention but were denied because they would not agree to the sham expedited schedule decided upon by the Attorney General and the ACLU. Within a month of the suit being filed, the judge ruled that the state marriage law was unconstitutional and the case went directly to the Oregon Supreme Court. In addition to requesting that the Oregon Supreme Court send the case back to the lower court for a real trial where evidence can be presented to defend traditional marriage laws, Liberty Counsel's brief also argues that Oregon's marriage laws are constitutional, as it is the job of the Legislature to define marriage, not the courts.
Mat Staver, President and General Counsel of Liberty Counsel, stated, "The collusion which occurred in this closed-door session among the Attorney General, the ACLU, and a sitting judge is a sham and nothing short of manipulation of the judicial process for political gain. Marriage as the union of one man and one woman has come under attack across the country, but the collusive actions of the activist parties are unacceptable and will be challenged." Staver further commented, "The Attorney General is charged with executing the laws of Oregon, not secretly plotting with the ACLU and activist judges to create new law. Liberty Counsel will fight to make sure that the voice of the people in Oregon is heard and not stifled by under-the-table legal maneuverings of a few activist government officials."
"Outrageous!"
Yes, but it's SOP here.

Thank God for Liberty Counsel!
The attorneys and the judge should be disciplined for this serious breach of ehtics. The whole deal stinks through and through!
ping!
The judge should be impeached, the attorneys should be disbarred.
Let's see what the adults do with this in Oregon.
"Let's see what the adults do with this in Oregon."
My guess is the same thing that they did to Rather and Berger.

The plot thickens.
source please?
The source was an e-mail from the Liberty Counsel organization. If you sign up at their website, they'll send updates on important religious freedom cases (usually their own).
Thanks, I understand because I get some from other sites. I just usually mention that it was an email.
Homosexual Agenda Ping - the Peoples' Republic of Oregon (or some peoples', anyway. Liberal peoples'.)
Have people just decided to give up? Gone asleep? Decided to sit on the couch and watch TV for the rest of their lives?
The leftists are being open, shameless, and nothing less than evil in their criminal lust for power.
Let Scripter and me know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.
Note: The leftists' code words of "tolerance", "diversity" and so on are not even believed by them any more. What they really want is raw, naked, total control over everything. They want re-education camps, total control over child raising and "education" (you know why they hate and fear homeschooling), elimination of religious freedom (a truly religious person is not a slave to the world, and therefore the most free person - hard to control!), and curbs on free speech.
They are more dangerous than most people can imagine.
They sure should be. But THAT will never happen!
Most people just don't realize how corrupt things have gotten.
They're aiming to get the law grounded in the Oregon State Constitution next month. That will take the rug out from under the Attorney General's Office, the ACLU and the liberal judge who tossed it out.
I totally agree. When people put their attention primarily new stuff to buy, or mass entertainment, they remain more or less in a hypnotic trance.
Can't remember if on this thread I mentioned I just got back from a 2 day trip to SF. The very air - the atmosphere of that hell - is like an electrically surcharged cesspool, decorated with bright lights.
Absolutely horrible.
In the summer of 2001 my family and I went on a group bus tour to several European countries. One of the first stops was Amsterdam. The entire time we were there I had the uneasy feeling that we were on a piece of real estate from which God had withdrawn Himself because the people had asked Him to leave. I was quite happy when we moved on!
I can imagine.
I visit SF periodically, it's not THAT far a drive, used to live there, have some friends there, etc.
But I don't think I'll go again for a long time.
It was very interesting driving around and seeing peoples' faces - people walking on the streets. Without exception their misery was highly visible on their faces.
And the number of seriously filthy, hideous, mentally ill kooks - scarey.
