BERLIN - German authorities said Friday they have arrested an al-Qaida suspect wanted by Spain on charges that he helped finance the terror network for years.

Mamoun Darkazanli, 46, a Syrian-German dual national, was taken into custody in Hamburg on Friday on a Spanish warrant and is being held for possible extradition, city judicial spokeswoman Sabine Westphalen told The Associated Press.

Arrested in Hamburg.

This is where Atta and the boys came from and 911 was hatched.

And elsewhere, especially in Iraq.

There's been a lot of this going on in the last few days (including a charity scam in the USA that was busted yesterday). This is more of the "nothing" that Kerry claims is being accomplished in the war against terror.

9/11 link confirmed.

"The CIA's attempts to enlist Mamoun Darkazanli were initiated in late 1999, at a time when three of the four Hamburg students who would later pilot the hijacked planes were first learning of the hijacking plot at an al-Qaida training camp in Afghanistan. Darkazanli, 44, has acknowledged knowing the three pilots, Mohamed Atta, Marwan Al-Shehhi and Ziad Jarrah, with whom he attended the same radical Hamburg mosque, Al Quds, and shared several common friends in this city's sizable but insular Muslim community."

Of course the Germans will let him go in a few months, just like they did the guy convicted of 9-11 involvement, after his lawyers point out that the evil Guantanemo-running Americans were involved with collecting the evidence against him.

You got that wrong. Germany´s chief prosecutor is still working to get Mzoudi and Motassadeq into jail. The judges have heard that there was maybe material in the US which could prove innocence of both, therefore it dropped the charges until there´s further proof of guilt. Here, we have a concrete plea for extradiction, and there´s no reason for Germany not to extradite the guy to Spain (I hope that the Spanish have sufficient evidence for a conviction). And regarding Mzoudi and Motassadeq: both will get their penalties - if not in Germany, then in a country they will be extradited to.

Not only is this a great catch, but this guy probably has a lot more intelligence -- about 9/11 in particular -- than most other terrorists. The Germans better not screw this up. His feet need to be held to the fire, so we can learn more about the build up/preparations for 9/11 and post-9/11 operations as well.

Al Qaeda Suspect Detained in Germany

German authorities said Friday they have detained a Syrian-born German suspected of being a leading figure in Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda network with the aim of extraditing him to Spain.

A court in Hamburg, northern Germany, said it had issued an arrest warrant for Mamoun Darkazanli. He is accused of being "one of the key figures of the Al-Qaeda terrorist network and providing logistical and financial support for this organization since 1997 in Spain, Germany and Britain."

He is believed to have had ties with the so-called Hamburg cell that allegedly produced three of the Sept. 11 suicide hijackers.

Court spokeswoman Sabine Westphalen said in a statement that Darkazanli had been arrested after a formal request from Madrid.

She said he was accused in Spain of "membership in a terrorist organization," which in Spain can carry a 12-year prison sentence.

"He is believed to have been the constant interlocutor and assistant of Osama bin Laden in Germany and to have been particularly involved in the transfer of documents and the payment of bills," Westphalen said.

She said the Spanish authorities believed Darkazanli was involved in buying a ship -- reportedly an ocean-going cargo freighter -- for bin Laden and had traveled to Kosovo in 2000 on behalf of Al-Qaeda. She did not give details.

Westphalen said three final conditions had to be met for his extradition to Spain -- a further order from a Spanish court, the approval of that order by the Hamburg court and a green light from the German government.

In Sept. 2001, US President George W. Bush froze the assets of the Mamoun Darkazanli Import-Export Company, along with those of 26 other individuals and groups he said were linked to terrorism.

But you know our judges - they´re even more dumb and keep the letter of the law higher than the intentions of the lawmakers. One´s for sure: if these two were that important, the US and Germany would have found ways to solve the problem by now. I agree with you that these two are not that important for Americas authorities.

We are making some progress in Germany. At the levels that matter, Germans are helping despite some of the public ruminations of some of their public "figures."

Twelve is not a big enough number. Any small number needs to be ended with a firing squad. Of course Europe is too civilized for that but....

Don't forget the public info that is avail. on some of the more quiet mil. deployments in the Afghanistan campaign RE: Deut. forces deployed. Similar to the Canadians providing snipers, etc. Not crappy soldiers, the elite/"SF" types.. "Heavy lifting." NOT in every country's case, however. Some countries, I am sure we are all well aware, have been less than "helpful." ....

I bet if Europe were invaded by the (now former) USSR, we would have gone to their aid, in accordance with Article 5 of the 1949 NATO treaty. This article is a TWO WAY street. Some (not all) in Europe assumed that this implied only a US defense of Europe in the face of Soviet aggression and in reality never of a European defense of the USA. There was a little surprise, called in the U.S. "September 11." Did they ALL rush to our defense in accordance with Article 5 requirements and mutual defense obligations? The future US and International History books will have to scrutinize that issue in detail...

The bottom line is that America is under attack from an asymmetrical, unconventional (UW) enemy and we must defend ourselves. More than just mere enemies, we have also found out who our true friends are. Friends help in the Crusade against the terrorist enemy.

For future observers looking back at this present historical period, the lesson learned may have to be a formal repudiation of many international arrangements and institutions (and a serious snubbing of the French, among others) in favor of an aggressive, attack-oriented preemptive National defense policy, with some "friends" backing us up with the "heavy lifting". The very underpinnings of the entire international community are very much in question if mutual security is “not applicable” with respect to the U.S. and its legitimate security needs, particularly with respect to the unparalleled scourge of terrorism. We need friends and appreciate any significant help. Friends lay down lives for each other...

Below is Article 5, which can be located in a variety of sources, one is provided below for quick reference to anyone with a passing interest:

NATO TREATY, 1949

http://www.canadahistory.com/sections/documents/nato%20treaty.htm

ARTICLE 5

The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all, and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defense recognized by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually, and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.

Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security.

The German police are not locally hired community employees and enforce *all* German laws, not selected ones. Take note, Los Angeles and other "U.S. sanctuary cities." Joschka (The Red) Fischer may be a darling of the German public, but I'm sure the German police remember his urban terrorist days with his commie pals.

Fischer was not really a terrorist. There is this one picture of him where he is wearing a motorcycle helmet and beating a cop laying on groung with a wooden bat. The cop didn't get seriously injured. Just got a good beating. Years ago he appologized to the cop and the cop accepted. I'm sure nobody inside the police sees him as a cop beater. The times were just different and it happened decades ago. Those were the wild seventies.

But it is true that friends of him later slided into the RAF terrorist scene. However at that point Fischer and these guys already didn't share the same flat anymore.

Fischers best pal, Daniel Cohn-Bendit, now is the head of the Greens in France. During Fischers wild Frankfurt days he also shared the same flat as Fischer and the terrorists and fought the same 70s fight against imperialism, nuclear plants, the vietnam war, the petit bourgeois, the death of the forrest etc.

"Bounced a check to the German government?" Good one, more likely he forgot to pay taxes. I was just threatened with court action for 12,50 Euros (approx. $14), and they wouldn't even tell me what I owed it for!!!

But hey, the Germans did get a big fish OUT of country post-haste last week and I just wrote about it on news/activism "He ran, but he couldn't hide." Check it out.

GOT ROPE? Got Memory? How about "invisible" Atta Boys?

James Pardew started his Balkans career in 1993 as a senior intel officer for the Joint Chiefs of Staff responsible for channeling US aid to the Bosnian Muslim Army. COL Pardew had been put in charge of arranging the "air-drops" of supplies to Bosnian forces, working closely with the Chairman of the National Security Council Anthony Lake.

This is an euphemism for supervision of AL QAEDA network in Bosnia where Atta's recruiter Mohammed Haydar Zammar was hatched. Zamar also brought two Atta's lieutenants Ramzi Binalshibh and Said Bahaji into 9-11 team.

Mohamed Atta was trained in terrorist camp in Bosnia in 1999.

This would have not been possible without Clinton aid to terrorists.

State Department is infested with people who in order to protect their own careers and pensions derelict the duty to protect U.S.A from terrorist threats.

Didn't OBL get Bosnian Citizenship from Clinton's Jihadist Buddies in Sarajevo ?

Didn't a number of Taliben captured in Afgahnistan first learn their trade in Bosnia and Kosovo courtesy of Clinton ?

Didn't a Germand Army Major recently testify that every single KLA unit had a foreign Mujadeen leader ? Isn't that the very same KLA which Clinton spent a few billion to arm, train, and promote ?

doesn't Kerry want to install the very same foreign policy team in a Kerry White House that Clinton used to aid and abet Bosnian & Kosovo Jihadists ?
