WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Secretary of State Colin Powell, who has stayed largely out of the presidential campaign, said he doubted claims by Democratic challenger John Kerry that he could attract more US allies on Iraq if he defeats President George W. Bush on November 2.
"I don't want to get into the political debate, as you noted, and Senator Kerry can make these statements, but I'm not sure that he can really back them up or that suddenly support that is not there now will magically appear with a change in the presidency," Powell told Fox News.
A pillar of Kerry's presidential campaign has been his promise to obtain more international support for the US effort in Iraq.
Kerry regularly accuses Bush of having alienated traditional US allies in his effort to go to war against Iraq at any cost.

Its worse than that--he can't keep the ones we have with his insults, etc. The leaders of Poland, Italy and Australia are not exactly Kerry worshipers at present.
Kerry will produce the new allies immediately after he has Christopher Reeve up and walking again.
The Japanese weighed in for Bush yesterday or this morning.
It is just that magical thinking is notoriously faulty in this version of reality.
I have feeling he will make a few allies "magically" disappear. I also think he will change Tony Blair from a "lapdog" into a trusted ally, but only if he doesn't disappear too.
The other countries are going to flock to join Kery in Iraq. Besides all those people he gets out of their wheelchairs will be there too! Along with them folks he met that one Christmas in Cambodia :-)

Iraq's leader can't be too happy with him either. One of my biggest concerns is Pakistan. Would Kerry blow that situation? Think Taliban Afghanistan with nukes.
Heck he insulted Allawi, the Iraqi President.
Yes they did & they were the ones hosting the financial summit on behalf of Iraq.
Germany threw out some red meat to the American people the other day. Their defense minister was saying that they might consider sending troops "if the situation changed." In other words, if Bush lost. The thought of foreigners trying to weigh in on our election infuriates me, and I don't see why many Americans (i.e. Kerry supports) don't have enough national pride to feel the same way.
It's really pathetic.

France and Germany, both initially opposed to Iraq, would still not go in even if Kerry wins.
Russia, initially opposed, is launching their OWN war on terror.
Spain was in, but caved to the terrorists.
India and China were both initially opposed, and have not changed their position.
Great Britain, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Denmark, Hungary, Turkey, Singapore, Australia, and Japan are already involved in some capacity, among others.
Who does that leave, and how would he woo them?
It leaves the refugee land for draft dodgers.
I wish that the Presidnet or the RNC would run an ad with Powell and say, "Do you think there is anyone int he world better at building allies?"
