Y'know, for over a week now I have wanted to start a FReeperesearch thread regarding the new Party-representational colors. Who took away our "true blue"?

If you recall, the GOP was always blue, up to and including the first 2000 Election reports.

However, as soon as the "red state/blue state" theme was cast... well, the Left couldn't be their all-too-representational red, now could they?

WHO made the change? HOW was it immediately implemented?

There's truth in advertising, let's consider getting the colors right a public service.

P.S. Diotima and I are doing a random RadioFR show next Tues., 2PM E... with Mark Steyn! More details to follow.

It's my understanding that the party in power is represented by blue, the challenger in red.

Actually, the way it has worked in the past is the alternate. One election cycle the Rs are Red and the Ds are blue. The next election cycle it's reversed.

I believe that BLUE goes to the incumbent party, which makes us blue, and them red this time around.

The GOP was blue from the beginning of color TV until the 1980 election. Suddenly in 1984 the networks decided that the Democrats and red clashed (it was the Cold War, don'tcha know) and since then the Republicans have been red.

However, as soon as the "red state/blue state" theme was cast...

In the 1984 election, the ENTIRE map remained Blue (for Reagan) most of the evening. The Dems, however, were winning in the District of Columbia, but it's so tiny that the Red was smaller than a TV pixel. CBS News, in desperation to show viewers that the map was not ENTIRELY Blue, had a technician install a BRIGHT, BLINKING Red bulb behind the map at Chesapeake Bay.

A Blue, blinking light simply cannot compare in effect to a bright Red, blinking light on a TV screen. I believe that's why Blather, Brokenjaw and Squire Jennings insisted on Red for the Dems...out of FEAR that the entire map would turn a garish, fire-engine Red and a D.C. Blue blinking light would not be clearly visible to TV viewers...

What a fantastic opportunity that y'all are interviewing Mark Steyn. Please tell him for me, writer to writer, that he writes so well it's almost enough to make me throw down my pen in dispair. Normally, quality must be sacrificed for volume, or vice versa. But he maintains both at the same time.

Anna, this blue vs red issue is a big one for me.

The left is socialist communist Red.

The right is true blue.

In this time of political upheaval surrounding the War Against Terrorism, it couldn't be more clear what I am talking about.

This is very significant. I'm not sure why our folks are pleased as punch to refer to themselves as Red.

It bugs me every time I hear it.

This is just more proof that the commie MSM is controlled by dems who are marxist's socialists. It was the MSM that elected hillary and her husband (with some help from a midget with a resentment named Perot) but the bottom line is they controlled the bad stories on bill&hill. They kept all the negative stuff on the back pages and the pro bill stories made the headlines.

But this blue state, red state stuff is too blatent. I know we here at FR questioned it in 1996 when the media made the dems blue and the excuse was the incumbent is always blue. I recall this very well because it was big news for me. I could not see how the media could just switch things around to suit them right in front of everyone and still claim to be non-partisan.

Well here we are with a incumbent and the commie MSM has lied again. From here on out the MSM has decided the socialists will be blue and the conservatives will be red. And I doubt if theres a durn thing anyone can do about it.

The older I get the more my eyes are opened to the old adage of the pen is mightier then the sword and the land of the free, the home of the brave is controlled by a commie media that puts pravda's best days to shame.
