I'm still trying to stick with Scientific American, but it's getting tough

I hadn't read SA for years and recently picked up a copy. It wasn't even remotely like the magazine I remembered.

Was there really a time when you could pick a science or history magazine and not be pummeled with leftist dogma, or was I just so naive back then that I didn't notice it?

Yes, there really was such a time; you're not dreaming it. A few months ago I was poking around in a junk an antiques store, and came across a box of SAs from around 1980. I almost bought a few just because of the incredibly cool full-page ads in them for the Apple II Plus, but when looking through the content, I was amazed at how intellectual it was. Most of the articles were too heavy for a layman; it came off as the sort of magazine professional scientists would read as their idea of leisure.

It was almost nothing like the current-day SA.
