Yes, they do and I think that wasn't a very good idea, either.

hmm,the Chinese contigent is primarily for policing duties & carry basic weapons-the heavy duty stuff is carried out by a UN contigent lead by Brazilians(army troops from Nepal,Sri Lanka etc).

Largest container port in the world largest cargo airport right off our coast
Bahamas
Li Ka-sheng China's Red Billionaire Gatekeeper of the Panama Canal

What options short of direct miltary intervention does the USA now have assuring safe and timely passage of our Military (men and equipment) and commercial interests through the canal.?

China..meanwhile is building up her blue water navy

Slight problem is that even A PLAN admiral will call his 'HAN' class attack boats lousy & China's next generation of attack boats aren't due till 2006(which are roughly equal to American LA class boats with land attack cruise missiles etc).Besides those subs will have to clear American & Japanese fleets(both sub & subsurface) to get to Haiti via South America-if they take the other route(through the Indian ocean)-there is the Indian Navy & those rotten Americans again!!!

well the US govt( of GWB) was not exactly against UN intervention in Haiti & when you have UN intervention ,you have to expect every type of uniform.

The UN has alot to answer for IMO. I don't trust anything they do, plus the group seems to be Anti America. Interested in lining their pockets and writing silly resolutions they know the receiving country will blow off.
China vs. Taiwan is bothersome. China is bothersome actually.

everyone knows China is going to be pain in the rearend for most nations like Japan,India or the US-but what has been done to counter that??As far I know, there hasn't been any decisive move on the part of Washington to sell the Aegis equipped destroyers to Taiwan(which the ROC needs to even have a minute chance of shooting down the 500 odd ballistic missiles China has pointed at it)-Neither has their been any movement on selling 8 D/E subs to Taiwan, though that's not America's fault as US shipyards will need a European design to build a sub as the US doesn't build or use D/E subs(& the Europeans say they won't sell arms to Taiwan).Taiwan only has 2 combat worthy subs now -against the 20 odd which China has deployed for Taiwan alone.

So much for the Monroe Doctrine. I wonder if these are Tianaman Square veterans.
