For President: George Bush (GR Press Endorses GWB)

For President: George Bush: The central question: Who would be best at keeping America safe?

Sunday, October 17, 2004

Our country in this election year is at a point like none before: engaged in a furtive war with a splintered enemy that has struck us grievously and remains determined to take us down. It is a context that tests the nation's steadiness, patience and resolve. Our vote in this difficult and dangerous setting is for President GEORGE W. BUSH.

Mr. Bush offers America the better hope for security and eventual conquest over the fanaticism of al-Qaida and its terrorist brethren.

This is tested leadership. Approaching Nov. 2, 2004, it is fitting to recall how President Bush led and rallied the nation from Sept. 11, 2001. In the ensuing months Mr. Bush and his team took on the gargantuan task of reorganizing the federal law enforcement, military and security structures to meet a peril never inflicted upon us in the eras of Communism and the Cold War. They pursued the enemy worldwide, dismantled its sanctuaries, closed down front groups and captured or killed much of the al-Qaida leadership.

Do they usually endorse a Republican candidate ?

I think it's interesting that papers in Michigan and Illinois, which are supposed to be Kerry's states, have endorsed Bush.

Grand Rapids is in West Michigan, which is traditionally conservatve and Republican. The GR area, however, is becoming progressively liberal, so while the Press endorsement of GWB isn't surprising, newspaper endorsements from the GR area may be changing with the demographics.

Got this from Goggle; more to follow as this Sunday more newspapers will announce their endorsements

Bush: The Carlsbad Current-Argus, Carlsbad, N.M., endorsed Bush on Oct. 17.

"We believe President Bush should be re-elected because he is better prepared to lead the war on terror. We believe his firm conviction and stalwart stance to pursue the terrorists and destroy them is the only way America can navigate toward a secure tomorrow."

I think Michigan union members may issue John Kerry an unpleasant suprise on the 2nd. I know a lot of union members who aren't thrilled with Bush, but the look of disgust that creeps onto their faces at the mention of Kerry is quite telling.

I know teachers who also think the NEA here is bunk and will vote what *THEY* believe. And they will vote Bush.

If the auto unions only knew what Kerry has in store for the automotive industry... If I recall, neither Detroit paper endorsed Gore in 2000 because they knew he was be the deathblow for the auto industry.

The only section in the Greater Grand Rapids area that votes in any Democrats is the NW side of the city of GR. I am in a SE suburb. SE, SW, and NE all usually vote for Republicans. My State Senator is my former mayor, Bill Hardiman.

The Holland and Muskegon areas, which are represented by U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Holland) also usually vote Republican.

I was at a friends (UAW worker) home last night. He told me that his union steward was passing out pro union/Kerry flyers and said in a sarcastic monotone "Vote Kerry, heres your propaganda". He says they listen to conservative talk radio in the shop allmost exclusively.

Did you hear that the Newspaper in Crawford, Texas that endorsed Kerry is being pulled off the shelves of the stores in Crawford and losing it's subscribers and advertisers? The people in the own are NOT happy with their decision and the paper may not survive.
