To forget the likes of Lee and Jackson would be the saddest, and most grievous of actions. Lee was the perfect example of why we remember, why we must continue to remember regardless of the outcome. Our rich heritage is also the reason Southerners are patriots still. In an increasingly liberal, narcissistic USA, Southern men defend, love and answer her call to duty in record numbers.

The call to Duty. In Lee's case Virginia, where his allegiance, loyalty and love was firmly established. Right or wrong, how can you fault the men who fought with such clear and well thought out convictions?

"Duty...is the sublimest word in our language. Do your duty in all things... You can not do more-you should never wish to do less."

"I cannot raise my hand against my birthplace, my home, my children." ...R.E. Lee

That my friends is "Heritage".

To reduce that great struggle as a war only about slavery, cheapens and demeans many great men. That is the thing that is truly hateful. It is my Duty...to never forget what that word "Duty" really means, or how best to honor it.

All my life, the Confederate flag was something of a joke to me. M history classes in high school and earlier had taught me that the Confederate defeat during the Civil War was a good thing,

Mr. Kajolian: Let me guess. 1) you ain't from around here, are you? 2) you went to government school?

[Peter Kalajian] It may stand for some perceived difference between the North and South, which apparently has persisted to this day

Perhaps it is not just a rumor that the South is more conservative than the North.

Allow me to demonstrate what passes as leaders and heroes to New Englanders such as Peter Kalajian.

The perception of a difference remains fairly strong.

Gay marriage is a constitutional right only in New England.

Incarcerated felons retain the right to vote only in New England.

[Peter Kalajian] Are people who fly the Confederate flag, be it in bumper sticker form or on the end of a flagpole, trying to align themselves with such openly evil and backward-thinking organizations?

Perhaps they are not trying to align with any "backward-thinking" morons, but rather to celebrate past heritage. Perhaps some just want to join in defense against the "forward-thinking" progressive liberal morons of Mr. Kalajian's New England where Adam and Steve have the a constitutional right to get married, the parish priest may molest children under the "one free grope" rule, and convicted felons enjoy the right to vote, and Ted Kennedy is the more conservative Senator of his state.

[Peter Kalajian] To me, the symbols have long been morally relative to each other. Both stand for hate, oppression, and the wanton murder and destruction of a group of people because of some perceived inferiorities.

Whereas, slaveholders in the North treated their slaves with kindness and generosity and brotherhood, which is the only reason the North did not invade Delaware and Maryland.

Slavery in the South stood for hate, oppression, and the wanton murder and destruction of a group of people. Slavery in the North stood for kindness and brotherhood. There is no moral relativism there. There was a clear-cut distinction.

Genocide of the native Indian population was God's will. (In the WBTS, Indian nations allied with the CSA. Apparently they knew somebody was slaughtering them and the buffalo, and it wasn't the CSA.) (It sure was nice of them Indians to just give us all that land from the Atlantic to the Pacific and from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.)

With Plessy v. Ferguson, in 1896 the U.S. Supreme Court (8-1) found segregation was Constitutional. (That is the Supreme Court of the USA, not the CSA.)

The Act of March 26, 1790 (1 Stat 103-104) provided:

That any alien, being a free white person, who shall have resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States for the term of two years, may be admitted to become a citizen thereof....

Chinese were excluded until 1943.

For true Nazi-like behaviour, one should look at the actions of General Ulysses S. Grant. He threw the whole 12 tribes of Israel out of his district, on 24 hours notice. Indeed, Grant wrote in an official order, "The Israelites especially should be kept out."

O.R. Series 1, Vol. 17, Part 2, p. 330

LA GRANGE, TENN., November 9, 1862.

Major-General HURLBUT, Jackson, Tenn.:

Refuse all permits to come south of Jackson for the present. The Israelites especially should be kept out.

What troops have you now, exclusive of Stevenson's brigade?

U. S. GRANT,

Major-General.

O.R. Series 1, Vol. 17, Part 2, p. 337

LA GRANGE, November 10, 1862.

General WEBSTER, Jackson, Tenn.:

Give orders to all the conductors on the road that no Jews are to be permitted to travel on the railroad southward from any point. They may go north and be encouraged in it; but they are such an intolerable nuisance that the department must be purged of them.

U. S. GRANT,

Major-General.

O.R. 17, p 424

GENERAL ORDERS,
HDQRS. 13TH A. C., DEPT. OF THE TENN.,

Numbers 11.
Holly Springs, December 17, 1862.

The Jews, as a class violating every regulation of trade established by the Treasury Department and also department orders, are hereby expelled from the department within twenty-four hours from the receipt of this order.

Post commanders will see that all of this class of people be furnished passes and required to leave, and any one returning after such notification will be arrested and held in confinement until an opportunity occurs of sending them out as prisoners, unless furnished with permit from headquarters.

No passes will be given these people to visit headquarters for the purpose of making personal application for trade permits.

By order of Major General U. S. Grant:

JNO. A. RAWLINS,

Assistant Adjutant-General.

O.R. Series 1, Vol. 17, Part 2, p. 421

O.R. Series 1, Vol. 17, Part 2, p. 422

HDQRS. THIRTEENTH A. C., DEPT. OF THE TENN.,
Oxford, Miss., December 17, 1862.

Honorable C. P. WOLCOTT,

Assistant Secretary of War, Washington, D. C.:

I have long since believed that in spite of all the vigilance that can be infused into post commanders, the spice regulations of the Treasury Department have been violated, and that mostly by Jews and other unprincipled traders. So well satisfied have I been of this that I instructed the commanding officer at Columbus to refuse all permits to Jews to come South, and I have frequently had them expelled from the department, but they come in with their carpet-sacks in spite of all that can be done to prevent it. The Jews seem to be a privileged class that can travel everywhere. They will land any wood-yard on the river and make their way through the country. If not permitted to buy cotton themselves they will act as agents for some one else, who will be at military post with a Treasury permit to to receive cotton and pay for it in Treasury notes which the Jew will buy up at an agreed rate, paying gold.

There is but one way that I know that I know of to reach this case; that is, for Government to buy all the cotton at a fixed rate and sent it to Cairo, Saint Louis, or some other point to be sold. Then all traders (they are a curse to the army) might be expelled.

U. S. GRANT,

Major-General.

"If you care to display a symbol that represents the brutality and viciousness and lack of humanity that was involved in something like the slave trade, as the Confederate flag clearly does, you are entitled"

.......................
Slavery for 4 years..................... Slavery for 86 years.

Which flag has deeper history of Slavery?

I hate to rain on this idiots parade but the confederate battle flag was adopted AFTER Lincoln freed the slaves with the emancipation act. The civil war was fought over states rights with the issue of slavery playing a minor role.Under the constitution each state had the right of secession-the decision of almost half of the states to vote for secession
was based on lopsided economic policies dictated by the industralized northern states. This act by the southern states had the potential of robbing the north of vital raw materials to feed their industries. The north used the excuse of slave produced goods as their basis for high tariffs low purchase prices and imposing all sorts of federal restrictions on "slave"states. Never mind that a lot of northerners also owned slaves. The flag the flew over slavery was the good old stars and stripes. I agree that the southern battle flag has been used by groups to promote hate and bigatory--but put the blame where the blame is due on the people who perpetrate hate not on an inanimate object that placed outside of our society would have no meaning except that which people assign to it.

Having studied the Civil War under both Yankee and Southern teachers I have come to one conclusion: Convincing people that the Civil War was ONLY about slavery was the first BIG SPIN JOB!

Hey Peter...no one gives a sh*t if YOU are offended or you think anyone else is offended.

Personally, all these thin-skinned PC jerks offend the hell out of me with their constant whining.

I'll say it again - I DON'T GIVE A RAT'S ASS IF YOU ARE OFFENDED. IF YOU DON'T LIKE TO BE OFFENDED - MOVE!

As far as flag designs go, the Confederate Flag is a good one. I have a bandana with the design on it, but i only use it as a handkerchief.
