I was in the U.S.A.F. from 75 - 79.
I'd love to go back in and defend this country.
Where do I sign?

and they want us to sign custody over for at least 2 to grandparents, because of costs. Does that sound right to you? my sister wanted to enlist and they told her the same thing...or something similar.

thanks re: profile page. My pix were on server of fellow FReeper. The server went under for financial reasons & I have not yet found another place. I have a few leads but have been quite busy. Do want to get them back up.

With all due respect, sir: The military age requirements have little to do with physical age/weight. They have more to do with mental attributes.i understand the reasoning, but with all due respect that dog won't hunt, imo (oops, guess i'm set in my ways on that one :o).
first of all, the reasoning employed proves to much. foolheartiness can be a tremendous liability as well as an asset, while a little more seasoned age can provide it's own assets.
i am BARELY over the age limit...HARDLY enough to make a difference re the concerns you outlined. is it true that in WW2, the age requirments allowed men much older than me to serve in the regular military without any prior service?
w/ all due respect, the mental acuity of someone just over 35 is not reason enough in time of war to keep him out of service while others aged 35, etc., can serve but don't care to.
other factors must be weighed in as well. for instance, MORALE--i would rather have a 38 year old new soldier with no prior who WANTED to be in Iraq, Iran, or wherever, than i would a 35 year old who wanted to be home.
just my 2 cents :o)

But will you fight for John Kerry's wrong war at the wrong place at the wrong time with no funding to support your equipment becasue it costs too much and its more important to save some trees here in America and create big dig like government medical programs that have been proven to fail in other countries around the world and cut 100,000 jobs and raise taxes first on the small buisness and then on everybody else and by the way that little old war over this is just one big mistake anyway because we need to get back to where terrorism is such a nuisance.. NOW WILL YOU FIGHT?
yes. for the simple fact that it is the RIGHT THING TO DO, whether or not Kerry is smart enough to understand that. he may think he would be ordering soldiers into the "wrong war, etc.", but so long as he were to keep the soldiers there, then we would be doing what needs to be done IN SPITE OF Kerry's own inconsistencies.
Don't get me wrong. i would HATE to have him as Commander in Chief. But i also know he is going to lose this election.and even if he were to win, i would serve my country in spite of the commander, not BECAUSE of him.

Sorry - but the chances of anyone changing the rules to suit you is pretty slim.that's usually how laws are passed, or rules changed...in response to some nutball who should not have been able to make a difference on behalf of himself and thousands of others like him :o)
