I believe the Cards beat them in the series in 1967 - not sure if that was thier last appearance though.

If I recall, the Reds beat the Red Sox in the 1975 Series.

How many people expect if the Red Sox win that Kerry will use their come-back as an example for his potential comeback (The Sox being from Massachusetts)? I think a BoSox win helps W, whether Kerry tries to ride it or not. If the Yankees win, the only people watching the World Series will be NYers and people from the National League city. If the BoSox win, there are people like me from all over the country who will be watching to see if history is made. And if we are all transfixed on baseball, Kerry has a much harder time getting his message out. Given that W is ahead right now, I think a BoSox win tonight helps Bush.

How in the hell did someone get Bill Buckner to sign that picture? If I was him and someone put it in my face, they'd probably get punched.

On the brink of the biggest collapse in postseason history ....The Yankees have been to the postseason so many times, it doesn't surprise me that they would be on the losing end in this situation. OTOH. 26 world series championships and 39 AL pennants makes the Yanks the best team in sports history.
Oh yeah. Go Yanks!

Actually given that no team has ever come back to even force a game 7 when down 3-0 in a series I think the Yankees have already committed the biggest collapse in post season history. The good news for them is even with said collapse they can still win the series, which would allow some other team at some future date to take the biggest collapse title from them.

Want SOX (Massachusetts team) and ASTROS (Texas team) to win, then ASTROS crush the SOX in the World Series. Poetic justice and a nice symmetry to the upcoming rout of Kerry by Bush...

If I remember correctly, Boston was
one strike away from winning the Series in 6 games in 1986.
The fans who actually attended the game last night were gypped: they only got to watch 9 innings.

Not just a Texas team beating a Boston team, but doing it behind one of the Boston team's greatest former players - Roger Clemens. Worst move Sox ever made after letting Babe Ruth go to the Yankees was letting Clemens go. The Curse of the Bambino ends tonight -- but the Curse of the Rocket starts on Friday!
(Note: I am a Sox fan by marriage, but I really only care about them beating the Yankees because I hate the Yankees. I most emphatically do not want John Kerry's team winning the World Series!)
