BEIRUT: The UN Security Council's 15-member states issued a presidential statement Tuesday once again demanding that Syria withdraw its troops from Lebanon, and requested a report by the UN Secretary General every six months on the two countries' compliance.

....

Syria, EU finally ink trade, political agreement

Syria formally initialled an association agreement with the EU that commits both sides to work toward free trade and increase efforts to stamp out terrorism and weapons of mass destruction.

Syria was the only Mediterranean country in the EU's "Barcelona process," launched in 1995 aiming to bolster trade and political ties in the region, not to have concluded an association agreement.

The issue of the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction had until now hampered a closure to the accord.

Syria remains the object of international suspicion, most notably in Washington, for its military and political involvement in Lebanon and alleged support for terrorism.

EU External Relations Commissioner Chris Patten said relations with Syria were improving but added: "We're still in a position where we don't see eye to eye on everything."

"(France Going to Screw Bush Again!)"

LOL! ...been listening to the left/liberal drivel from Bill O, we see.

France voted with the USA to get the Syrian troops out of Lebanon. Russia voted in favor of keeping them in, though, due to Russia's interests with Syria and Iran.

They're doing the best they can to take away one of our excuses for going into Syria.

In other words, President Bush's foreign policy is having the desired effect. Very effective FP: "Attack us and we'll kill you." Even a eurocrat can understand that.

Chirac just wants another country to sell illegal weapons to. They have lost a great deal of money in arms trading since Saddam has been jailed and Bin Laden has been in a cave. I kinda feel sorry for the French (NOT!)

"Minister Farouq Sharaa, currently in Brussels: "Our position remains as it was. We think 1559 is illegal intervention in Syrian-Lebanese bilateral relations.""

Syria has the same "bilateral relations" with Lebanon as Nazi Germany had with Poland. I wish I could wipe the smirk from these people's faces. Let Freedom Reign!
