GOTV - Nevada - How to get Involved!
October 21, 2004 | Seeking the Truth

Posted on 10/21/2004 7:43:21 AM PDT by Seeking the truth

Today's edition of the Review Journal says "Poll says Bush has Big Lead". This is the Mason Dickson poll from yesterday.

That's great to read but long ago, I promised myself that I will get involved in the Get Out the Vote (GOTV) campaign here in Las Vegas.

I have memories seared in my brain from Election 2000, when I lived in Boca Raton, Florida - Ground Zero.

I've told countless people since then how I observed the evil, criminal corrupt Democrat Party attempt a coup during those 36 days.

They are trying the same thing again here in Nevada. Nevada is a Red State - barely. Every county voted for President Bush in 2000 except for Clark County, which is Las Vegas/Henderson.

Anyhow, yesterday I went down to Bush Cheney HQ and volunteered for the 72 hour GOTV as well as an Election Day Poll Watcher. I'll be walking the streets and knocking on doors but they are also looking for all kinds of other help too.

Here's our chance to make a difference.

I'm not sure if Ms. Lang is responsible for all of Nevada but I'm sure she can point you in the right direction if you are from other parts of Nevada.

I JUST received my absentee ballot from Washoe county. Lot's of options to change our constitution. I read over most of them last night. Actually, I suppose my ballot will be here any day. All I got was the booklet with the questions.

I wish I was there to help walk the streets with you guys. I am confident Nevada will be going to Bush, but we must stay firm in getting the vote out. Thanks for your enthusiasm!

Already signed up at RNC and have been doing phones calls and last Saturday did the walk for the vote.

Everybody, please, please, please get out and do what you can.

I see McAullife is in town today, is anyone going to go and protest him.
Ask him about Global Crossings, made him a millionaire before they went under, what a bunch of crooks.

Also see that Kerry is coming back to town on the 26th, got to get a BIG protest going.

Thank you for your service!

We just got our sample ballot/booklet on Tuesday of this week here in Las Vegas, so you should be getting the ballot shortly - I hope!

You've missed the millions of ads that have been showing here in Nevada. Maybe that is a blessing as we are all sick of them.

Re: Proposition 3 - This has been a hotly contested proposition involving Doctors vs Trial Lawyers. The fact is that MD's are leaving the state or not even locating here in the first place. My wife, an OR Nurse in the newest Las Vegas Hospital (Southern Hills @ I215 & Sunset) say to vote YES to back the MD position.

Re: Proposition 4 & 5 - My expert (wife) says NO & NO to these.

I'm not crazy about funding Cops by a separate 1/2 percent increase in the sales tax either. That is a dangerous precendent.

Thanks for the ping! I'm alrweady signed up for Sunday and Monday, and I'm trying to adjust my schedule so I can work a few hours on Saturday as well. I've gotten several co-workers to volunteer, AND I've gotten 5 people registered as Republican. Now I'm bugging them to go vote early.

Excellent work!

I have been putting in a lot of volunteer hours, and have volunteered to be a poll watcher for 6 hours on Nov 2.

Carson City / Douglas / Lyon County area FReepers interested in volunteering can contact the Carson City Republican Headquarters at 841-1800. We need help!

Agreed about all the help they can get but not funded by a "separate" tax.

If this succeeds, don't be surprised when all kinds of special interests decide they also need a "separate" tax.

I too have tons of cops & firemen in my family - my last name is McDonald afterall!

Thats my fear as well. I am all for giving more of the money we are already being taxed to Metro.

But this sets a dangerous precedent. I would bet Metro does not see all this tax money and chances are if they do then the county will take away some of the funds that they are currently allowed.

Then to top everything else off what you mention will become the norm. Firefighters will say they need more money and will require a special vote for a special tax.

I support cops and firemen. I think that tax money is being wasted in other areas that should go to these vital areas. But that being said I know firemen that will tell you they are grossly overpaid, especially when overtime is factored in.

They play games with days off by trading with other people. They have 6 days(24 hour shift) off, one on, one off, one on, one off, one on, then back to 6 days off. If they want 7 or 8 days off they call in (especially capts) and say so and so(another capt that is a buddy) will take my place. The other capt gets paid double time and then later on he returns the favor and he gets double time. They have a system and they abuse it. I am sure cops do the same thing.

A capt. in the fire department can make 120,000 grand just by working a few extra days, half of which are manipulated to make them double pay.

Then they have fantastic bennies for life plus a pension that is more then probaly 80% of people make a year. I think after 25 years in they are looking at 60+ grand a year or more.

When I was growing up I always wished I had become a fireman. This is related to my last post. Almost all firemen knew a trade and they were, blocklayers, carpenters, plumbers, etc,etc on their days off to make extra money.

Now none of the young people work on their days off. Instead all these young people are in dept big time because they buy houses, SUV's, boats and all the great toys a man can afford after working hard for 20 or 30 years. Throw in a divorce and many firemen have screwed themselves big time. I know all this because my best friend is a Capt. and I visit the firehouse and see most of this stuff with my own eyes.

Everyone needs to help out. I am a registered Democrat and have received three calls in the last two days for the Democrate County Comissioner and one phone call for the Democrate State Assemblyman. My Republican brother has received one phone call on behalf of a Republican candidate.

The Democrate GOTV is intense in Nevada.
