I told my husband this story, and he immediately went to the NRA site and renewed his membership.

The "cycle of stupidity" goes like this:
1- A crime is committed with a gun.
2- Do-gooder legislators pass gun laws.
3- Only honest people obey laws, criminals don't.
4- Crime increases.
5- Do-gooder legislators pass more gun laws.
6- Repeat steps 4 and 5 endlessly until all guns are banned.

I'm seriously considering moving to Indiana just to get away from this nonsense.

Indiana is still very 2nd Amendment-friendly. Not only is there no equivalent of the FOID, a concealed carry permit is readily obtainable. I had occasion a few years ago to have some dealings in IL, and I was amazed; it was almost like crossing the border into a different country! At the time, I said the whole state should be fenced in as a mental asylum.

Last Spring, we drove the entire state of Illinois on our way to The Land Between The Lakes in KY. The middle & southern part of the state had pro-gun signs, arranged like Burma Shave placards along the side of the road. Unfortunately, there aren't enough people to combat Cook County, especially when you have Peoria, Springfield and Champaign, as well.
