NEW YORK — One person's trash is literally another person's treasure, if that person happens to be a freegan (search). They’re not vegans who refuse to eat meat or animal products; these people eat out of the garbage.
Freegans generally are activists. They believe we live in a capitalistic society gone mad where food, like so many other items, is needlessly tossed out.

Wait til one of them gets sick off the food they eat from someone's trash. When they sue and get millions from the restaurant chain that threw out that trash, then we'll the unintended consequences. It's just a matter of time.
Do they think that this impresses anyone? These people are spoiled, arrogant brats. Instead of eating trash, why not take some money out of the trust funds that Mummy and Daddy have set up for them and give it to charitable organizations that really help hungry people.
Hint: Rice does not wiggle . . .
They're also taking food out of the mouths of the homeless.
