this link. I don't know that it is possible to do the debate justice in a 750 word-limit article. If I'm not mistaken, the periodicals of the day published entire transcripts of Lincoln-Douglas debates. That would be most effective here, but back then they tended to focus on one issue only, and spoke for about an hour each. Few have that sort of appreciation for arguments and rhetoric today.
