I broke into a house once and cleaned their carpet.

Sounds like the time I was waiting for an oil delivery and saw the truck just as it was coming to my house. I turned away from the window and waited for the guy to park and get his gear together.

When I didn't hear anything I went to the door. No oil truck. I opened it and looked around - the guy was up the street - pouring oil into someone else's tank! He got the address wrong.

Wouldn't a house-sitter be better? < g >

This is a strange one. I imagine that drugs in some form or another are involved. I've heard of rental houses being "stolen" in this way, but never a primary residence.

I know this sounds nuts, but I bet "they" planned to kill the owner(s) and setup shop for a while. One trick to pulling off audacious crimes is act like you're supposed to be there and know what you're doing? I don't like the looks of her at all.

At least they had an oil tank! Don't laugh - it's happened - several hundred gallons of fuel oil in the basement would get me to pinging a bit.

This is one for the kooky bin, that's for sure.

We walked into a house in Cocoa Beach FL one Sunday morning. It had a For Sale sign and it looked abandoned and we peeked in the windows and walked around the yard,,and since it looked empty, we decided to see if it was, so we turned the knob on the door and it opened and we took two or three steps inside and realized someone's clothes were laying on the floor.......it wasn't abandoned!

We turned around and got the hell out of there and were terrified we were going to get arrested,,,,it was an honest mistake. This woman, has got to be mentally ill.

Well, I'll be damned. I think you're right.

Let's see: the owner lives alone and apparently has no immediate neighbors, so no reason for anyone to be suspicious.

The owner comes home, walks in and says, "What the hell..." and you just plug her with the gun. Presto, change-o, you have a place to stay.

Getting rid of the body...well, she may have had a plan for that, and if so we'll find out soon enough.

My aunt and uncle came home from visiting my family to discover that a group of people had been living in the house while they were away. The trespassers were gone but they had trashed the house and stole some of my aunt and uncle's possessions. They apparently had a pet monkey with them because there was monkey poop throughout the house.

They never found the people but it is believed that they were some of my cousin's "friends." The group knew when the house would be empty and when my aunt and uncle would return.

I'd be willing to bet that the house you went to look at was being occupied by a squatter.

When we came to look at the house where we live now it was listed by a realtor, and had supposedly been vacant for a few weeks. We arranged an appointment to see the house (since it's quite remote), and when we drove up there was smoke coming from the chimney. At first we thought "how nice of the realtor", only to find a couple of young kids (early 20s) happily living in the house while they made drugs. Turns out that the listing agent had told them the house was empty, and would be for some time. She was fired that day.

Wow! That's just amazing.
We thought of that later, because there were just clothes on the floor and no furniture or any other obvious signs of life,,but we were so worried about doing something wrong at the time that we just couldn't get out of there fast enough! It was an old, run-down house, right on the Banana River. It was probably from the 50's or 60's. I love the history of the Space Coast during the 50's and I was just getting into the idea of fixing it up (maybe),,,

I don't think I've even been on that street since!

Can you please describe (in detail) the difference between monkey poop and any other kind of animal poop.

If I saw piles of poop in my house it would never occur to me that it was monkey poop. Scratching my head and giggling here.

My sister's neighbor's got a new roof that way. Sis lives on a court. The neighbors live on a street with the same name as the court.

The peculiar part is that the breakin victims were so happy with the result they paid me for the work!

But I never made this a standard marketing approach.

So far family members have refused to post bail. I wouldn't even acknowledge her.

I have for many years posted these little silver stickers on the doors and windows. They say, in English and Spanish, "trespassers will be shot," and feature the skull and crossbones. They do wonders for peace of mind while I'm away.

I always did a good job, if I do say so myself.

Although I was a little ticked off that they hadn't moved anything.

Sounds like the movie "HOUSESITTER" with Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin. I mildly amusing film.

"There's a lot of people saying, 'What?"' Copeland said.

They're as confused as Kerry after a terrorist attack or a Red Sox win.
