OUTRAGE: Why was a company from stinking Canada given a contract by Naval Intelligence?

(An apology to our good Canadian FReepers who disagree with their government.)

============================================

Along with my commercial real estate business, some of you know that I have been involved in the security window film business since 9-11.

Although outsourcing may be an overblown issue in some areas, in other areas what has happened is an outrage.

Security window film is used to hold glass together and prevent shards from tearing people to pieces. Had the U.N. in Baghdad been fitted with security window film, some of the fatalities would have been prevented.

In the United States are fine manufacturing companies such as 3M and CP that make a very good quality film that has been used in government applications.

There is a company from Canada called ACE Security Laminates that was awarded a contract by Naval Intelligence. That stinking country would not support us in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Why in the h*ell were they given such a military contract?

When we can use American manufactured products, we need to use them. I spoke to staff members of several congressmen today, and they agreed. But why isn't it happening?

Awaiting your input.

Canada's products are usually more expensive aren't they? This is a good question.

I agree with you Doug, and I'm from you-know-where.

I never understood the criticism leveled against America for being the ones to go in and make money rebuilding Iraq.

Those who pay the biggest price, do most of the hard work and suffer the loss of life should get any benefit there may be in the rebuilding process.

I suspect with the exchange our products are less expensive, but don't know for sure.

I knew the bidders involved in a recent commercial job. The two best bids were very close. I will be making some calls on Monday. Especially where our government is concerned, American products have to be used. In some cases, that cannot be done. For example, no one in the U.S. manufactures ceiling fans. If the government buys them, they must import them. But with window film, it is made here and should be bought here.

And let me add, that even if our products are a little less expensive, it shouldn't make any difference.

What can you do, Judy, to convince your countrymen to get on the right side of the War on Terror?

That stinking country (Canada) would not support us in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Canada may not support the U.S. in Iraq; however, they are doing an excellent job in Afghanistan. France and Germany, among many others (including Mexico Bush's favorite neighbor) are conspicuously absent in both regions.

While I can understand your passion, your "facts" about US Gov't procurement are not correct.

There are only a very few commodities for which U.S. purchase is required. Precision ball bearings is one example. In addition, gov't contractors must certify that they will use U.S. flagged ships if necessary to transport goods by sea.

FYI - anyone can get procurement decisions, sole source justifications, etc., under a FOIA request. Such a request in this instance should show exactly what happened.

Perhaps the price or availability was better from the Canada offering?

I understand. My point is that our policy should change.

"My point is that our policy should change."

That makes more sense, though it is a very long shot.
