We are facing the prospect of a lame duck congress...a body where all sorts of special interest bills and pork get passed.

Weird then. NAFTA covers Canada too, right? Maybe it's just that the odds have to equally favor a Canadian company by law. Perhaps because of NAFTA it's illegal for the US government to count Canadian ungratefulness against Canadian companies.

Educate me then...I thought the trade agreement pertained to non-military, ie commercial type goods and services.

We dont trade defense equipment with Mexico, for example, or do we?

I don't know all the details...I just though that NAFTA opened up a lot of that stuff...very not-well-thought-out.

But I could be mistaken. If anyone knows the NAFTA angle to this story, I'd live to see it.

As would I. I think thats Dougs point here...this is taxpayer funded monies...quite different from private industry.

A side point. A Victoria, Canada man died in Iraq a few months ago. He was a security expert responsible for protecting GE execs. When militants attacked the GE car, he and his co-combatants drove their vehicle in between the line of fire and engaged the enemy. He was killed in the firefight. Man, it was great to be proud of a fellow Canadian. I realize he was making money, probably very good money for his services, but I certainly wouldn't have the balls to do that.

They have been in business far less time than the American companies.
