We keep hearing how close the election is going to be. As close or closer than 2000, if that's even possible. And with election lawyers for both parties crawling all over Florida, Ohio and other battleground states, both parties assume it will be tight.
But stop for a moment and think about it. That this election may be as close as the last is a stunning fact. How can two elections that have been nothing alike produce such a comparable result? How could two campaign seasons that focused on such radically different issues leave the electorate just as evenly divided?

Good line (about the MoveOn folks who) dated Dean but married Kerry. but if they had actually selected Dean we could be talking about a choice that echoes.

This will not only be a closer election than the one in 2000. It will be the closest election of all time. The closeness of the election can not even be imagined. The election in every state will be exactly tied. The senate and the house will be tied. Dick Cheney will be called on to break the tie in the senate but the Republicans will unfortunately use a Star Trek style transporter to get him over there. The transporter will split him into two people. One who wants to vote for the Republican and one who want to vote for the Democrat. Everything will remain exactly tied from now on.
